2. PRELIMINARY PLANNING
TASK 1
As a group, we chose the topic we were covering
and bearing it in mind we decided the name of our
radio station and the target audience for it.
• Topic > Horror movie preview
• Name > Motion Picture Radio
• Target Audience > 18 to 25 year of
age
3. PRELIMINARY PLANNING
TASK 2 Once we chose the target audience and the
name of our radio station, we proceeded in
splitting the roles in the group and in the
interview itself.
Our next step was to plan and write a script for
both the presenter and the guest, which
included a series of questions and answers
about the guest’s life and new movie.
We then had to search and produce music and
sound effects to create our very own archive
clip, which had to fit the theme of the interview.
• Presenter > James Beckett
• Guest > Shia LaBeouf > Darcy
Coulten
• Archive clip > audio clip from the
horror movie talked about
4. CREATING A JINGLE
To create a jingle we had to find sound effects that fitted the topic of
the interview. Once we found a light hearted, pop music to use in the
background of the jingle we proceeded to record an ident which is
supposed to tell the listener the name of the radio station he is listening
to.
5. USING AUDITION
Using Audition was probably the stage in which I
personally found the most difficulties, since it is a
program I am not very familiar with, but luckily the
rest of my group had more experience than me and
patiently taught me how to use it. Putting together
and editing the sound effects and music we collected
for both the jingle and the archive clip ended up
being really fun, and the more I used Audition, the
more I felt comfortable in the process of editing
without having to ask for help.
We also used the same program to add to the jingle
and the clip the interview we later on recorded and to
edit it all, which gave us an additional opportunity to
improve our skills.
6. Recording using aDictaphone
We first recorded the sound effects for
the jingle using a dictaphone, but decided
in a second moment to record them again
in the studio, for matters of sound quality.
However, we had already used a
dictaphone in the past and we improved
our skills during this preliminary task.
Recording in the studio
Once the jingle and the archived clip were
ready, we headed to the studio to record the
actual interview. It was the first time I ever
been in a recording studio, so I really enjoyed
the whole process. After a few minutes spent
trying to get ourselves comfortable enough
to talk in front of a microphone, we
encountered no problems at all and smoothly
recorded our interview.
7. Team Work
Our group worked as a serious and
productive team. We got on really well
with each other and each of us had their
part of work to do, which was what made
the whole process faster and more
proficient.
Individual contribution to your team
Each of us contributed to the group
project. The planning and editing was
done together, while on my part I
searched for sound effects and
background music. Each individual
contribution helped to finish the project.
8. CLASSWORK AND INDEPENDENT WORK
We completed the majority of the task in class, but to
get on with the project we had to bring home some of
the work. Personally, since I had not been able to find
all of the sound effects we needed during lesson, I had
to get on with the task independently.
9. BLOGGING
We recorded the whole process on our coursework
blogs by taking pictures and uploading posts
describing what we were doing and how we were
doing it.
Blogging was a neat and organised way that helped
us to keep track of our work.
