what i know about AS media
              syllabus
For the AS production in media firstly we will be doing Unit G321,Foundation
Portfolio in Media which is 50% of the AS grade.

In this unit we will be doing two associated moving image, productions,
including the titles and opening sequence of a new feature film.

Doing this we will have to be able to use creative and technical skills as that is
what we will be assessed on.

The mask scheme goes in 4 levels , level 1 incomplete, level 2- basic, level 3-
average and level 4 excellent.

AS media is also divided into two units and Ms Connell unit is based on
coursework; presentation of research, planning and evaluation of the main
product. We will also have to make a story board before moving on to the
opening sequence.
History of film and
             genres
• The history of film is the historical development
mostly known as cinema, motion pictures, film, or
the movies which started since the 6th century.

• Motion pictures developed gradually from a carnival
novelty to one of the most important tools of
communication and entertainment, and mass media
in the 20th century. Motion picture films have had a
  substantial impact on technology.
Conventions of horror movies
• Meaning :What I would expect to see

• Blood- most horror movies have a lot of blood to make the
scene realistic to create fear and also to have a gruesome
  effect.

• loud screams and repetition of words when a dramatic scene
occurs : to get every one out of their seats which is a signature
thing for horror movies and they repeat words to engage the
  audience.

• Pale makeup- which makes the movie more unusual
interest in film genre
I’m interested in horror movies firstly because , I enjoy
being left in suspense (guessing what the big twist at
the end is going to be).

I also like horror movies because It draws you in from
the start because of how loud or soft the music.

I also like the way the special effects are used in horror
movies as it doesn’t make me think that the film is fake
even though i know it is, and also most horror movies
have a flawless production to each scene.
history of horror
Horror movies has been around for almost as long as movies have been made. One of
the people that started horror movies is a guy called Georges Méliès and he created Le
Manoir du diable or 'The House of the Devil' which was released in 1896 this is
sometimes credited as being the first horror film.

Filmmakers then continued to merge elements of science fiction and horror over the
following decades which created movies such as Frankenstein and later SAW which was
influenced by the 1980s franchise, Friday The 13th as it has the same kind of bloody and
thrill to it which is what horror is best for.
As you have seen, music, sound and lighting has a huge
impact on horror movies and also adds the suspense and
effect to horror and as technology has increased it betters
                           the movie.
If there was no sound ,the film wouldn't be frightening but
can be gruesome. Which tells me that horror movies rely on
                   the sound to make effects.
Opening sequence of SAW
What was effective
• The use of back focus was effective as the image of title was really sharp as
the special effect of the snake like rope which tightened the title

• The crashing soundscape which was used in the beginning reflects the genre
as it adds the fear factor which horror movies usually have.

• A great lighting effect which is included in film opening sequence, (a Striker
One machine that controls several lights around the set at once) this gets the
audiences attention quicker as the beginning is sharp

• Also the name twisted pictures is a very effective name as it links to the story
line of the movie saw which is a twisted movie.

• The characters dressing is dressed down which is very interesting as it
represents how their feeling, which was a really thoughtful thing that the
  director displayed.

• Establishing shot and zoom used as soon as the lights were turned on to show
  what the victim was feeling
continuation
• Mise en scene:
The costumes( dragged down suet, used reflected
how the guy in the beginning was feeling

The lighting is supposed to be very bright which is
  also very effective.

The emotions is usually intense in the beginning
which made the opening a cliché of a horror movie
My opening sequence
• I would like my title to smoke and fade out because it would
illustrate that’s it’s a horror movie and also to reflect the
  mystery of my opening sequence.

• My story will be about man who is in human form and he
befriends 3 girls on earth and they disappear once at a time
but he does not reveal himself until the last girl disappears.
Him and the last girl alive calls the one of the other girl and it
end with a phone ringing on the bed. What triggered this
story was when I went open evening and the girls I was
  working with all disappeared
My story board

          ………..
BBFC code
• The rating I will give for my targeted audience
is a 12A because my opening sequence is a
more matured theme and relates to revenge
which shouldn’t be viewed by a 10 yr old. I
also rate this a 12A because there will be no
nudity and physical violence in my opening
  sequence.
