3. Pawn - Move forward in a straight line, one square at a time. The pawns first move is special. You have the option of moving one or two squares

4. Rook - A rook moves in straight lines along the ranks and files. It cannot move diagonally.

5. Knight - A knight can move in any direction: forward, backward or to the sides. It always moves in an L-shape: two squares in a straight line and then one to the side.

6. Bishop - A bishop moves diagonally backward and forward. It can move as many squares at a time as it likes.

7. Queen - The queen can move in any one direction for any number of squares.

8. King - Can move in any direction, but only one square at a time.
