This document summarizes a presentation given by Alan Freeman at the Cultural Capital conference in Winnipeg, Canada on November 7, 2010. The presentation discussed how modern cities provide facilities for cultural exchange between different populations within the region and between other regions. This cultural exchange is important for business, government, and sharing of ideas. For a city to successfully facilitate this exchange, it needs to have a culturally alive environment as culture is the vehicle for interchange between populations.
