4. Steel-slag is hard, dense, abrasion resistant, low flakiness index
It contains of free iron, giving the material high density and hardness
Steel-slag is chemically stable - good mechanical properties
Used widely in industrial roads, intersections, and parking

The effectiveness of using steel slag aggregate in improving the engineering properties of
locally produced asphalt concrete mixes.
0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the limestone coarse aggregate were replaced by steel
slag aggregate.
Replacing up to 75% of the limestone coarse aggregate by steel slag aggregate improved
all the tested mechanical properties of the asphalt concrete mixes.

CONCLUSION
Steel slag produces a high quality aggregate which can benefit asphalt materials in a
number of ways.
Steel slag aggregate can out perform natural aggregate in terms of
- Shape
- Resistance of crushing
- Skid resistance
- Durability
- Adhesion
The use of steel slag can be a win-win result for the environment
- Reduction of waste
- Conservation of natural resources
