3. • Regeneration of lost periodontal apparatus
is the ultimate goal of periodontal therapy.
• Bone replacement graft’s(BRG) have been
widely used to achieve this regeneration
with varied results.
• Osteo inductive bone grafts are thought to
be clinically superior because of their
ability to induce new bone formation from
uncommitted progenitor cells.
4. Experimental evidence of osteo induction have
come from the following
1. Animal studies showing ectopic bone
formation following subcutaneous and
intramuscular implantation of
osteoinductive grafts (Zhang et al)
2. In vitro studies of osteoblastic and
osteoclastic proliferation following
exposure to inductive material.
53. Grafton and osseograft both
have the potential for stimulating
osteoblastic proliferation and
differentiation from
undifferentiated mesenchymal
cells and hence both are truly
osteoinductive in nature.
