3. Opening to Blair witch project
• Three students set out to try and film about
the legend of the Blair witch.
• There is not a lot of use of camera angles as
the whole thing is from the students point of
view, just that the footage has been put
together.
4. Opening to Friday 13th
• A lot of mid shot and only a few long distance
shots when showing the location.
• It is shown to be more of a chase and in some
ways more realistic as they have more of a
chance of getting away. Mise-en-scene Again
in remote places and dark clothing.
5. Opening to Halloween
• Halloween is another slasher film in which a
lot of people die.
• Again in this there are a lot of rapid shots,
different camera angles and a lot of blood and
gore to do with mise-en-scene.
6. Opening to Texas chainsaw massacre
• Texas chainsaw massacre uses various camera angles
mainly close ups and mid shots, only few long distance
shots.
• Editing is also used, they have used very rapid movements
to make the situation more tense and to make the story
line more scary, the film comes across as fast pace and so
the audience has to pay attention to keep up.
• Mise-en-scene includes them using remote areas and dull
dirty costume, in opening scenes usually more main
characters show some nudity which makes them more
vulnerable and scares the audience more as it is their worst
fear, poorly lit lighting, usually of an evening hardly ever in
daylight. Chainsaw used as a violent tool and a violent
sound.
7. Opening to paranormal activity
• This film is different to the others in that the
start seems very normal, a normal couple
living a normal life.
• It sets the scene and gives vital information to
the audience about what they will be filming
and why as it is from their point of view.
• This is similar to ours in that we was originally
going to do I form Jacobs point of view.
8. Similarities
• Our opening uses various camera angles,
again more close ups.
• Editing; various transitions and rapid cuts with
slow motion and ‘bad film’ used.
• Mise-en-scene; remote location, field and
dark costume.
9. Differences
• In both the blare witch project and paranormal
activity it is from their point of view, our was
originally going to be like this however we
changed our minds.
• Also in horror films it is usually the males in
which say they should take the scary route but in
this case it was the female character.
• Also in our film we do not see the outcome of the
female character very quickly whereas in the
others the fate of the characters is made known
pretty early on.
10. Conclusion
• To conclude although we share some
similarities and also have some differences
our film does generally follow the usual
conventions of a horror film.
