7. A noun clause : it is a dependent clause
which can’t stand alone, and it starts with a
question word.
Noun clause can function as :
1. A subject : what he said is interesting.
2. An object : I loved what he said.
8. A noun clause starts with a question word such as: how,
who, what, where, whose..etc.
In the noun clause, the subject comes before the verb. E.g.
I know where she went.
Whereas in the question, the verb comes before the
subject. E.g. where did she go?
Does, did and do are used in questions but not noun
clauses.
9. With the word who, the word order is the same in
both the question and the noun clause.
Who lives there?
I don’t know who lives there.
Note : A noun clause functions as a subject takes
singular verb. E.g. What he is saying is interesting.
