Lawrence (Larry) Ellison - childhood


    Oracle's founder and CEO

    born in New York.

    At 9 months he contracted pneumonia

    his 19-year-old mother gave him to her relatives
    in Chicago to raise

    Until he was 12 years old he did not know that
    he was adopted

    His adoptive father had lost his real estate
    business in the Great Depression

    He has joined University of Illinois.

    During the final exams in his second year,
    −   his adoptive mother died
    −   he dropped out of school

    Joined the University of Chicago
    −   dropped out again after the first semester

    Moved to California
    −   For the 8 years , he has bounced from job to job

    Worked as a programmer at Amdahl
    Corporation

    Made his own company with 2 of his team
    colleagues
    −   Called Software Development Labs

    Came across a paper about RDBs

    won a 2-year contract to build a RDBMS for the
