Yemen is located in Asia and has a total area of 203,850 square miles. It has a population of over 18 million that is projected to grow to over 71 million by 2050. The official language is Arabic and the official religion is Islam, though religious freedom allows for other groups. Yemen has a developing economy based around oil production and refining, natural gas reserves, agriculture including grains, fruits, vegetables, coffee and livestock, and industries such as cement, aluminum and food processing. The country is geographically divided into highland mountains, coastal areas, cliff beaches, and the Empty Quarter desert region.
