Mobile IPTV delivers video or TV broadcasts over the Internet to mobile devices using IP-based wireless networks. There are several approaches to mobile IPTV, including using traditional digital broadcast networks combined with IP (mobile TV plus IP approach), extending IPTV beyond fixed terminals using mobility and wireless characteristics (IPTV plus mobile approach), using IP-based mobile broadcasting networks (cellular approach), and relying on existing video services over the Internet (Internet approach). Key challenges for mobile IPTV include limited device capabilities and bandwidth, vulnerable wireless links, coverage implications, and ensuring quality of service and experience for heterogeneous mobile devices. Future work is needed to develop more sophisticated network architectures and optimize resource allocation for large mobile IPTV systems.
