Destroyed by Hurricane Ike in 2008, Bayland Marina, located outside of
Houston, Texas in the Upper Galveston Bay, celebrated its grand
reopening with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The city Mayor, his staff and
other prominent local civic leaders were present along with tenants of the
marina and some of the contractors who worked on the project.
The celebration was kicked off with speeches giving special thanks to the
individuals and companies involved in the rebuild process. One of the
highlights of the celebration was a flag raising ceremony conducted by the
Sea Scouts and their talented Bugle Corps.
“People in Baytown, TX had waited three and a half long years for this
day,” said Parks and Recreation Director, Scott Johnson. Bayland is the
only marina in the area, so when the marina was destroyed, local boaters
had to move their boats to locations outside Baytown. “There were a lot
of happy faces at the grand opening,” remarked Andrew Gibb, Manager of
Project Development for Bellingham Marine. “The feedback from the City
has been wonderful and the boaters are elated to be back home.”
The new marina features floating concrete docks from Bellingham Marine
designed to withstand an 18’ storm surge. High 20” freeboard, storm
surge protection, upgraded power and full utilities services at the slip are
just a few of the features of Bayland’s new facility.
