2. Project summary
MED-DESIRE aims at promoting the diffusion of distributed solar energy technologies
and energy efficiency in the Mediterranean area, by:
• Improving the knowledge of local technicians and operators (SMEs, installers,
architects, engineers)
• Increasing the general awareness about the benefits of RES and EE
• Allow MPCs to further develop their standardization and certification systems, by
introducing new standards and/or improving the related certification processes
• Help MPCs to design innovative financial mechanisms for the support of solar
energy production and energy efficiency
• Help local administrations in MPCs to design solar ordinances (e.g. obligations for
new buildings to be equipped with SMH)

• Strengthened capacity of public administrations and regional institutions to
manage energy efficiency and distributed solar technologies promotion
• Higher and more diffused competences of local technicians and professionals,
facilitating the removal of the main technical barriers for distributed solar
technology
• Innovative tailored financial mechanisms and market stimulation instruments
designed to support the widespread diffusion of solar energy technologies
9. Expected results
• Strengthened participatory approaches and increased awareness among public
and private local stakeholders
• A wide consensus achieved among public and private key stakeholders on the
central role of renewable energies for sustainable development and
environmental protection
• A co-operation framework established among providers of energy technologies
and services in EUMC and MPC to foster the development of a sustainable
common energy market
