9. CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR), POLICY
1. Preamble
At Bharti Airtel, business success is not just about profits and
shareholder returns. We believe in pursuing wider socio-economic and
cultural objectives and have always endeavored to not just live up to it,
but to try and exceed the expectations of the communities in which we
operate.
Quality education is the most powerful tool for socio-economic
transformation of a country. It not only eradicates poverty but also
ensures equity among people.Therefore, Bharti Airtel’s CSR and welfare
activities will be committed to create and support programs that bring
about sustainable changes through education and use of technology
and ensure:
Accessibility and quality of education for all, in particular for
underprivileged children from disadvantaged and marginalized
communities.
Education and training opportunities to the youth of our country in
order to make them employable.
10. 2. Focus areas
Bharti Airtel’s CSR and welfare activities will center on the following areas:
I. Promoting education including special education, employment enhancing
vocation skills especially among children and livelihood enhancement
projects
II. Eradicating hunger, poverty and malnutrition, promoting preventive health
care and sanitation and making available safe drinking water;
III.Contributions or funds provided to technology incubators located within
academic institutions which are approved by the Central Government.
IV. Promoting gender equality, empowering women, setting up homes and
hostels for women and orphans, setting up old age homes, day care centers
and such other facilities for senior citizens and measures for reducing
inequalities faced by socially and economically backward groups.
However, the Company may, subject to the approval of the CSR Committee,
undertake any CSR project specified in ScheduleVII of the Companies Act,
2013 from time to time.
11. 3. CSR Committee
The Board of Directors of the Company shall constitute / re-
constitute the CSR Committee from time to time in compliance
with statutory requirements.The CSR Committee shall comprise
of a minimum of three directors, at least one of whom, shall be
an independent director.The composition and terms of
reference of the Committee is available in the Investor Section
of Company’s website i.e. www.airtel.in.
The CSR Committee may invite members of senior
management, representatives of Bharti Foundation and other
persons as it deems necessary to the committee meetings.
12. 4. Undertaking CSR Activities
Bharti Foundation is the philanthropic and developmental
arm of the Bharti Group. Bharti Foundation currently runs
254 Schools to deliver free quality education to
underprivileged children across rural pockets in India and
lays special emphasis on education for the girl child.
Bharti Airtel will primarily support the CSR activities,
permitted under the CompaniesAct, 2013 and rules made
there under, undertaken by the Bharti Foundation.
However, if required, it may also undertake CSR activities
through any other entity / organization in compliance with
the provisions of applicable laws.
13. 5. Selection and Implementation of CSR
Activities and Projects
The CSR Committee shall consider CSR proposals from Bharti Foundation or through
any other eligible entity. In order to be considered by the CSR Committee, such
proposals must inter-alia contain details of projects / programs to be undertaken,
proposed amount, timelines and a confirmation that such projects / programs are
eligible under the Companies Act, 2013 and rules made there under.
The CSR Committee will evaluate the projects / programs and may, at its sole
discretion, approve certain projects / programs for implementation. While approving
projects / programs, the Committee shall ensure that those are covered under the
ambit of activities listed in Clause 2 above.
The CSR Committee may also decide to contribute towards the Corpus Fund, as
permitted under the law.
14. 6. CSR Budget
The Board shall approve overall limits forCSR Activities
to be undertaken by the Company.Within the overall
limits approved by the Board, the CSR Committee shall
approve individual projects / programs including
contribution towards the Corpus Fund. Any surplus
arising out of the CSR projects, programs or activities will
not form part of the business profit ofAirtel
15. 7. Location
All CSR projects / programs under this policy shall be undertaken in
India.The CSR Committee shall decide on locations for
implementation of the CSR projects / programs.
8. Monitoring and Disclosure
The CSR Committee shall endeavor to:
Devise a robust monitoring mechanism to ensure that the CSR
projects / programs are undertaken effectively in accordance with
the approval granted and are fully in compliance with applicable
laws, rules and regulations. Monitoring of CSR activities could be
done through:
Periodic third party assessment of key projects
Impact assessment with key indicators in our areas of operations
Regular review by CSR committee
Ensure that appropriate disclosures are made to the shareholders
in the company’s annual reports.
The Contents of the CSR Policy shall be disclosed in the Board’s
report and displayed at the AirtelWebsite.
16. Airtel CSR Initiatives
On Dec 19, 2015:Times of India published an article E-shakti: empowering rural
women through digital literacy
E-Shakti - A digital literacy mission
In line with Government’s initiative of Digital India, BhartiAirtel, in association
with Madhya PradeshAgency for Promotion of InformationTechnology,
organised its E-shakti initiative.This initiative, aimed at building internet
literacy and access among the women of Madhya Pradesh.The initiative
benefitted over 120,000 women employed in various government departments
like Health, Anganwadi, Gram Panchayat,Women and Child Development,
Agriculture, Education etc. and girl students of Government Schools and
Colleges, across 20 districts of Madhya Pradesh.The 90 minute training session,
conducted by quality trainers appointed by Airtel, focused on the basics of
internet and its uses, awareness of various government portals, introduction to
apps and to social media. A similar initiative was replicated by Airtel’s Andhra
Pradesh (AP) circle in partnership with Government ofAndhra Pradesh, to build
mobile internet awareness and literacy among the women of Andhra Pradesh.
The trainings were actively spearheaded voluntarily by Airtel zonal employees.
The trainings benefitted over100,000 Self Help Group women in all 13 districts of
AP.
17. Bharti Foundation signs MoU with Magic Bus

The aim of the joint initiative is to empower them to secure a livelihood of their
choice and succeed in it, giving them a fair chance of moving out of poverty by the
time they turn 18 years of age. Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom operator will
provide financial assistance to this initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Ganapathy, CEO (Mumbai, Maharashtra and
Goa) Bharti Airtel, said, "We are excited to partner with Magic Bus and Bharti
Foundation. Airtel remains committed to creating long-term and sustainable value
for its stakeholders across all sections of the society.Quality education and social
inclusion are an integral of our CSR plan.”
18. Airtel Bihar and Jharkhand Circles donated Rs.958, 735 to the Chief Minister’s
Relief Fund on behalf of Bharti Airtel for the rehabilitation of victims of Nepal’s
earthquake. Airtel also initiated 48 hours of free network usage for all calls made
to Nepal, to facilitate relief work and communication in the disaster hit area.
Gujarat suffered heavy rains and flood in July 2015. At areas like Banaskantha,
Patan, Kutch, Mehsana, Sabarkanta and Morbi, the network was significantly
impacted with power outages in over 2,900 villages.Team Airtel Gujarat, Indus
Towers and NSN worked diligently in this hour of need. Over 50% network was
restored within just 48 hours. Airtel was among the few first to restore
connectivity, when many locations were drowned under water.
Airtel NESA launched a flood relief campaign in North East India.The team
volunteered one day for flood relief campaign at adversely affected Ampati
district in South West Garo Hills, Meghalaya.The campaign was conducted,
along with government officials.
19. On Aug, 18, 2014;The EconomicsTimes published:
Bharti Foundation to spend 100 crores on rural sanitation in Ludhiyana
Bharti Foundation launched the Satya Bharti Abhiyan in August 2014, to improve sanitation
facilities in rural Ludhiana.The Foundation aims to cover every village across Ludhiana under the
initiative by constructing toilets free of cost in all households lacking such facilities. At the end of
this program, Ludhiana will be left with no household without a toilet.The initiative is being
supported by Bharti Airtel and Bharti Infratel.
Satya Bharti Abhiyan
Bharti Foundation launched the Satya Bharti Abhiyan to improve sanitation facilities in rural
Ludhiana district and support the Government’s agenda of Swachh Bharat Mission.Through this
initiative, it provides individual toilets in households lacking such facilities, across 900+ villages.
In addition, the aim is to improve sanitation facilities in government schools of rural Ludhiana by
building separate toilets for girls, where no such amenities exist.
Program Objectives*
Provide an individual toilet in every household in rural Ludhiana which is without a toilet.
Provide a girl’s toilet in every Government School of rural Ludhiana that does not have a separate
toilet for girls.
