This document summarizes a study on flood risk management in Nigeria and South Africa in the context of climate change. It finds that the cities of Cape Town and Ilorin are vulnerable to flooding, which is exacerbated by factors like poverty, overcrowding, and weak infrastructure. Cape Town has implemented strategies like monitoring systems, flood infrastructure, and education programs to manage flood risk. Community involvement through participatory risk assessment is also emphasized. Effective governance and reducing social vulnerabilities are identified as important for building resilience to climate change risks like flooding.
