Thank You for coming to Affiliate Summit West and welcome to our presentation: Banking on Infomercials- a Multi-Channel Profit Opportunity. In a recession year where budgets are tight, you’ve invested your money to be here, and I appreciate that. We are all hoping for a better 2011, and we will do our part to make the season bright. I’d like to pose a question to you, please answer by a show of hands… Which one of us in this room would benefit from an additional few thousand dollars per month in their pocket? (pause 1,2,3,4) Great! That’s just about unanimous. In the next 60 minutes we’ll be giving you some valuable take away’s that can add thousands of dollars of revenue to your Affiliate business almost immediately if not sooner! I’ve assembled my panel of experts to show you one method to grow your revenues in the very hot category of As Seen On TV products. By way of introduction, my first panelist is Andy Latimer, President of BlueWater Media, an Infomercial Product and full service marketing company . Andy has been in the infomercial business for over 10 years. Andy has a wealth of knowledge in all of the facets of the Infomercial business: from product selection, to videoing, directing, producing and launching infomercials. Major players failed to see that change was coming, the handwriting on the wall, and they failed to take any action. They continued along as if doing the same old thing over and over would keep their business growing. They completely missed what was happening. When or if they got it, the snowball rolling down the hill was too big, and it crushed them.
You can’t give it one single name. Some call it the “I” revolution. Lets look deeper. 3 weeks ago the Wall Street Journal reported that for the first time, “advertisers spent more on Internet ads than on print ads. That’s right, U.S. spending for online ads in 2010 hit $25.8 billion, surpassing the $22.8 billion spent on print ads in newspapers.” Do you get it? It didn’t happen overnight. It was a long time in coming. But they missed it. Today another revolution is underway. It’s all around you. It’s an outgrowth of the “I” revolution. Do you know what it is?
OK, here’s a hint… As a direct response marketer for over 26 years, I have seen 3 gigantic and mind boggling shifts in the business that perhaps have made possible the next major shift: first, the launch of DRTV and Infomercials in 1984; Second, the Internet was launched in 1994; and Third, around 1998 the invention of Affiliate sales on the internet. When the dust settled and I could de-construct these events, the lesson I learned from each of these paradigm shifts was this: If you were lucky enough to see the trend, embrace its ramifications, and take action, you were successful… sometimes hugely successful. What happens if you fail to see it, or don’t take action if you do? Don’t ask! Have guessed what it is? Here’s the reveal…
It’s the Video Revolution! If you are an Infomercial Product Merchant spending your share of the $21.5 billion in TV advertising, your business has always been all about Video. To you there is no Revolution! If you are an Affiliate Network and saw the video trend, embraced it, and took action, you know that you are a sizeable sales channel for Infomercial Merchants, as much as 32% of revenues. It’s a Marvel! If you are an Affiliate who focused on video early on, you were an early adopter of Infomercial products, you joined a Network, and have video integrated into the highly productive landing pages, to which you send traffic. Where are your customers every day?
It’s the Video Revolution! Its real. See those video thumbnails on these SERP? They are each worth about 3% of traffic. Here’s an important factoid for you….“While Total TV ad spending in the U.S. rose 3% to $132.5 billion in 2011, Infomercial TV Spending reached $21.7 Billion.” Infomercial sales are one of the largest components of the Affiliate sales pie. Are you getting your share of this important channel and a natural beneficiary of the video revolution? Meanwhile, Affiliate Marketing has prospered for 12 years. Now the momentum is there and the role of the video channel cannot be ignored.

In my 26 years, the Direct Response business has made the move from direct mail, to tabloid print ads, to Mail Order Catalogs, to TV shopping, to Infomercials, to e-Commerce, and now the Video Revolution is doing it again.
Best Research Resources for DRTV products: In order to stay on top of the new shows and the affiliate profit opportunity there are free services at your disposal to report and rank the shows. The Jordan Whitney Green Sheets - give you a list of top infomercial rankings. If the show is on the charts you want to be an affiliate to share the revenue. IMS Report (Infomercial Monitoring Service) - a subscription service with more granular data on where and how the shows are runing and doing. SciMark Report (Blog & newsletter) - this blog from an Infomercial Veteran reports on the latest shows and predict their success level.
