2. The Brief
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is one of the most popular
cricket team in the Indian Premier League (a T20 cricket
league).
The team had amassed a huge fan following after the
inaugural season, not just in India but outside India as
well.
KKR wanted a solution that could let the global fans stay
in touch with the team, specially during the tournament &
carry it with themselves as a mark of their passion for the
team.
3. The Challenge
To reach out to the KKR fan base across the globe & help
them stay in touch with the team.
Also as the team has no formal presence outside India &
therefore no promotional campaigns outside India,
another challenge was how to spread awareness about
the solution amongst the overseas fan base.
4. The Solution
A large chunk of the overseas fan base was based out of US &
Western Europe & belonged to higher socio economic segments.
In these two markets, the iPhone had made significant inroads since
its launch in 2007 & was the smart phone of choice for the tech savvy
users.
We decided to leverage the hype around the iPhone & create the first
iPhone app for an IPL team in India.
The app let users:
Stay in touch with the latest news from the team.
Check out latest scores ‘on the go’ on match days.
Easily find the app on the iTunes app store & refer to other KKR Fans.
5. The animated splash
screen delivered a rich
experience, in keeping
with the fun theme of
the app.
The interactions & the layout were designed to leverage the capability of the iPhone to the fullest
6. The app not only allowed
users to consume content
such as news, results etc.
But also provided
interactive content such as
polls, to let users express
their opinions.
7. Albums was a major
draw to users which
provided latest match &
post match images to
users.
8. The Results
The App, the first from an IPL team in India, has since been
downloaded across the globe in more than 35 countries.
9. Achievements
It was awarded a 'Silver' at the 2010 International W3 Awards.
The Application was also awarded the ‘Mobile Standard of
Excellence’ award at the 2010 WebAwards
