Cyberbullying-Jot Thoughts



Please use the post-its at your table to participate in the
  Kagan© structure titled Jot Thoughts. You will jot down
 an idea of how to prevent and react to cyberbullying on
 each post it. The goal of the activity is to fill up the table.
   We will then share our favorite ideas with our groups
  when the timer goes off. This will help to activate prior
       knowledge and hopefully you will make some
      connections to the instruction of cyberbullying
                  prevention and reaction.
Cyberbullying-Prevention
      • Monitor the software students use
   • Make sure your browsers are “kid-safe”
           • Block inappropriate cites
    • Place computers in visible areas of the
                      classroom
      • Limit or restrict the use of personal
     technologies in the classroom such as cell
                  phones or IPADs.
 • Encourage students to talk to you about any
       problems they are having with others.
• Make students aware of cyberbullying and why
                     it’s wrong.

answers related to cyberbullying prevention.
Cyberbullying-Reaction
   According to the Polk County Public Schools
  website there are 5 major levels of the school’s
         response to a bullying problem:
1. School-Wide Response Program
2. Teaching Strategies and Classroom Climate
3. Involving the Parents
4. Response Hierarchy (consequences)
5. Intense Individual Interventions
Responsibility of the Teacher Related
         to Online Safety
• Teach students New Media Literacy Skills
• Teach students to dangers of cyberbullying
• Take the necessary precautions for online
  safety
• Respond in an appropriate and effective
  manner when dealing with issues related to
  online safety.
• Inform students and parents about the
  importance of online safety
Responsibility of the Students Related
          to Online Safety
• Students should critically look at online
  resources
• Students should use their best judgment
  when interpreting information from the
  internet
• Students should take responsibility when they
  make bad choices such as cyberbullying or
  visiting an inappropriate cite
• Students should stay informed and know the
  rules of their school and classroom

Use the Kagan© Quiz Quiz Trade structure to practice
what you have learned today. You must take a card and
stand up, hand up, pair up with someone that is not at
your table. Then one partner is going to ask a question
 and the other is going to respond, if they get it correct
  praise them, if they get it incorrect coach them. The
partners then switch roles, trade cards, and find a new
                         partner.

  • 4. Cyberbullying-Jot Thoughts Please use the post-its at your table to participate in the Kagan© structure titled Jot Thoughts. You will jot down an idea of how to prevent and react to cyberbullying on each post it. The goal of the activity is to fill up the table. We will then share our favorite ideas with our groups when the timer goes off. This will help to activate prior knowledge and hopefully you will make some connections to the instruction of cyberbullying prevention and reaction.
  • 5. Cyberbullying-Prevention • Monitor the software students use • Make sure your browsers are “kid-safe” • Block inappropriate cites • Place computers in visible areas of the classroom • Limit or restrict the use of personal technologies in the classroom such as cell phones or IPADs. • Encourage students to talk to you about any problems they are having with others. • Make students aware of cyberbullying and why it’s wrong.
  • 6. Cyberbullying-Case Study Please see your “Cyberbully Case Study” handout and discuss the questions and answers related to cyberbullying prevention.
  • 7. Cyberbullying-Reaction According to the Polk County Public Schools website there are 5 major levels of the school’s response to a bullying problem: 1. School-Wide Response Program 2. Teaching Strategies and Classroom Climate 3. Involving the Parents 4. Response Hierarchy (consequences) 5. Intense Individual Interventions
  • 8. Responsibility of the Teacher Related to Online Safety • Teach students New Media Literacy Skills • Teach students to dangers of cyberbullying • Take the necessary precautions for online safety • Respond in an appropriate and effective manner when dealing with issues related to online safety. • Inform students and parents about the importance of online safety
  • 9. Responsibility of the Students Related to Online Safety • Students should critically look at online resources • Students should use their best judgment when interpreting information from the internet • Students should take responsibility when they make bad choices such as cyberbullying or visiting an inappropriate cite • Students should stay informed and know the rules of their school and classroom
  • 10. Online Safety-Quiz Quiz Trade Use the Kagan© Quiz Quiz Trade structure to practice what you have learned today. You must take a card and stand up, hand up, pair up with someone that is not at your table. Then one partner is going to ask a question and the other is going to respond, if they get it correct praise them, if they get it incorrect coach them. The partners then switch roles, trade cards, and find a new partner.
