The document presents Old Testament prophecies concerning the coming Messiah and their fulfillment in the events surrounding Jesus' birth as recorded in the New Testament. It shows prophecies of the Messiah being born of a virgin, being called Immanuel, establishing an everlasting kingdom, being born in Bethlehem, and being heralded by a star in the east. Each prophecy is paired with its fulfillment narrative from Matthew or Luke, establishing Jesus as the fulfillment of these ancient Messianic promises.
2. Promise: “Therefore the Lord himself will
give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall
conceive and bear a son, and shall call his
name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14)
3. Fulfillment: “But as he considered these
things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared
to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of
David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife,
for that which is conceived in her is from the
Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall
call his name Jesus, for he will save his people
from their sins.’ All this took place to fulfill
what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
‘Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a
son, and they shall call his name Immanuel
(which means, God with us” (Matt. 1:20-23)
4. Promise: “For to us a child is born, to us a
son is given; and the government shall be
upon his shoulder, and his name shall be
called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the
increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end, on the throne of David
and over his kingdom, to establish it and to
uphold it with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore. The
zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. (Is 9:6-7)
5. Fulfillment: “And the angel said to her, ‘Do
not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor
with God. And behold, you will conceive in
your womb and bear a son, and you shall call
his name Jesus. He will be great and will be
called the Son of the Most High. And the
Lord God will give to him the throne of his
father David, and he will reign over the house
of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will
be no end.
6. And Mary said to the angel, ‘How will this be,
since I am a virgin?’ And the angel answered
her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and
the power of the Most High will overshadow
you; therefore the child to be born will be
called holy—the Son of God” (Luke 1:30-35)
7. Promise: “I see him, but not now; I behold
him, but not near: a star shall come out of
Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel”
(Numbers 24:17)
“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are
too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me one who is
to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is
from of old, from ancient days” (Micah 5:2)
8. Fulfillment: “Now after Jesus was born in
Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the
king, behold, wise men from the east came to
Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is he who has been
born king of the Jews? For we saw his star
when it rose and have come to worship him.’
When Herod the king heard this, he was
troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and
assembling all the chief priests and scribes of
the people, he inquired of them where the
Christ was to be born.
9. They told him, ‘In Bethlehem of Judea, for so
it is written by the prophet: “’And you, O
Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no
means least among the rulers of Judah; for
from you shall come a ruler who will
shepherd my people Israel” (Matthew 2:1-6)
10.
11. Micah 5:1-2
Now muster your troops, O daughter of
troops; siege is laid against us; with a rod
they strike the judge of Israel on the cheek.
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are
too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me one who
is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth
is from of old, from ancient days.

12. Micah 5:3-5a
Therefore he shall give them up until the
time when she who is in labor has given
birth; then the rest of his brothers shall
return to the people of Israel. And he shall
stand and shepherd his flock in the strength
of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of
the Lord his God. And they shall dwell
secure, for now he shall be great to the ends
of the earth. And he shall be their peace.
