the academic technologies team
supporting the use of technology for
teaching, learning and research at the

9. the sorts of things we do
• work with services to promote and develop ITS provision for
teaching and research
• advise academics on technology selection, working closely
with colleagues across university support services
• run teaching-specific services: e.g Moodle
• collaborate with services to integrate new capabilities: e.g
Coursework Management
• signpost good practices, support and training at Warwick
• collaborate with projects doing new things: e.g proposed PRS
project
• champion user requirements: e.g journal management
12. what is … digital humanities?
1
existing tools put to new uses
digitisation, annotation,
presentation …
text as data, data as images, maps,
timelines … 4
2
social media, participatory,
3
crowdsourcing …
controversial, fuzzy, buzzy
our priorities: web content, matchmaking creative technologists,
upskilling academics, data management, collaboration tools,
applications requirements etc

13. on the horizon … RDM RESEARCH
DATA MGT
5
drivers:
1
[+] opportunity: “reproduceability”,
data citation, data publication
[-] compliance: the university’s own
data policy, funder requirements
4
implications for ITS: 3

14. what all this means for ITS colleagues
we want to ensure that academics pick the best tools for the job,
using ITS provision wherever that’s the best fit, so:
•we will refer people on to services with well-informed
requirements
•we will welcome referrals from colleagues where we can help
refine requirements for research and teaching purposes
•we will request enhancements to existing services, based on
our evidence and expertise
•we will work with services to pilot and evaluate new provision
•we will work with colleagues to improve the evidence base
about current practice and emerging needs
