4. These inspections are essentially Predictive in
nature. Conducted with Non-intrusive Technologies
such as Infrared Thermal Imaging, Ultrasound
Detection & Vibration measurements.
Thermal Imaging: With the Thermal Signature, we
can see the Infrared Radiation which we can not
see otherwise
Ultrasound: With Ultrasound machine, we can hear
the High Frequency sound which we can not hear
otherwise
Vibration survey: Vibration signature shows the
physical movement of the machine indicating the
health condition of the same

13. No1 Main Lub oil Pump – 6.6 KVA
• The stbd side lub oil pump in operation.
• Terminal box noise measured by Ultrasound
• This is some metallic noise coming out of the terminal box.
• Recommended to open the terminal box and check the
connections.
• From air outlet it is noted the carbon dust appearing and
recommended to limit the greasing to bearing maker
recommendation (usually 3 shots per month) and observe after
12 months
• All black dust emissions to be cleaned to observe the motor
windings and grease effect.

15. COUPLINGS AND SHAFTS ALIGNMENT
Couplings inspection is difficult in normal operation.
This is how misalignment looks like I Infrared.
Note the Heat on the Motor Inboard Bearing and the coupling Rubber
This Machine will not last long under obvious misalignment

34. Main Sea water pump No.2 Vibration Signatures
1. The Total vibration in Radial direction is 3.637 mm/s RMS. and
in Axial direction 2.158 mm/s RMS.
2. The DNV standard for satisfactory running pump is 7.0 mm/s.
3. This pump is running in satisfactory limits.
4. The vibrations identified at sub synchronous and sub harmonic
ranges not serious but the initiated wear down at bushes and
wear rings.
5. The impeller is found to be in good condition.
6. The pump an run for another 2 years without any problem
however, vibration analysis to be done after every one year
period.
