Diesel Engine Applications
Abstract
The diesel engine (also known as a compression-ignition engine) is an internal combustion
engine that uses the heat of compressionto initiate ignition and burn the fuel that has been
injected into the combustion chamber. This contrasts with spark-ignition engines such as a petrol
engine (gasoline engine) or gas engine (using a gaseous fuel as opposed to gasoline), which use
a spark plug to ignite an air-fuel mixture.
Typical Uses:
Diesel Generators
Turf Equipment
Off-Highway and Construction Equipment
Farming Equipment
Truck and Bus applications

A diesel generator
is the combination of a diesel engine with an electric generator (often an alternator) to
generate electrical energy. This is a specific case of engine-generator.
Diesel generating sets are used in places without connection to the power grid, as
emergency power-supply if the grid fails, as well as for more complex applications such
as peak-lopping, grid support and export to the power grid. Sizing of diesel generators is
critical to avoid low-load or a shortage of power and is complicated by
modern electronics, specifically non-linear loads.
Turf Equipment
Golf course turf is the grass covering golf courses, which is used as a playing surface in the
sport of golf. The grass is carefully maintained by a greens keeper to control weeds, insects and to
introduce nutrients such as nitrogen fertilization. The grass is kept at a constant height by mowing.
A lawn is an area of land planted with grasses or (rarely) other durable plants, which are maintained
at a short height and used for aesthetic and recreational purposes. Common characteristics of a
lawn are that it is composed only of grass species, it is subject to weed and pest control, it is subject

to practices aimed at maintaining its green color, and it is regularly mowed to ensure an acceptable
length, although these characteristics are not binding as a definition
Truck and Bus applications
Bus: is a road vehicle designed to carrypassengers. Buses can have a capacity as high as 300
passengers.[1]
The most common type of bus is the single-decker rigid bus, with larger loads carried
by double-decker buses and articulated buses, and smaller loads carried
by midibuses and minibuses; coaches are used for longer distance services. Bus manufacturing is
increasingly globalised, with the same design appearing around the world.
Truck: is a motor vehicle designed to transport cargo. Trucks vary greatly in size, power, and
configuration, with the smallest being mechanically similar to an automobile. Commercial trucks can

be very large and powerful, and may be configured to mount specialized equipment, such as in the
case of fire trucks and concrete mixers and suction excavators. Modern trucks are largely powered
by diesel engines exclusively,

Off-Highway and Construction Equipment
Heavy equipment refers to heavy-duty vehicles, specially designed for executing construction tasks,
most frequently ones involvingearthwork operations. They are also known as, heavy
machines, heavy trucks, construction equipment, engineering equipment, heavy vehicles, or heavy
hydraulics. They usually comprise five equipment systems: implement, traction, structure, power
train, control and information. Heavy equipment functions through the mechanical advantage of
a simple machine,
