1983
• Paul Allen resigns as executive vice-president but remains on the board; Jon Shirley is made president
of Microsoft (he later becomes CEO); Microsoft introduces the Microsoft Mouse and Word for MS-DOS

• Microsoft and IBM forge a joint development agreement. They launch Windows 1.0 ( first window
based OS) and after that in 1986 Bill gates become youngest billionaire at the age of just 31.

• Microsoft co-develop SQL server 1.0.

• Jon Shirley retires as president and CEO; Michael R. Hallman is promoted in Shirley's place; the company
becomes the first PC software firm to surpass $1 billion of sales in a single year.
1992
• The company introduces Windows 3.1. Windows now has over 25 million licenced users.
1994
• In this year Microsoft released Windows NT.
1995
• In, 1995 Microsoft launch windows 95 and sell 1 million copies in 4 days.
1997
• The Justice Department alleges that Microsoft violated a 1994 consent decree concerning licensing the
Windows operating system to computer manufacturers
•The U.S. Department of Justice files two antitrust cases against Microsoft, alleging the company had
violated the Sherman Act.1998
2001
• Microsoft Windows XP is released internationally. In 2002, Great plain software is acquired by Microsoft.

• Microsoft launches Windows Server.
2004
• Microsoft announces a five-country pilot program for Windows XP Starter Edition, a low-cost introduction
to Windows XP designed for first-time desktop PC users in developing technology markets.
2005
• MSN launches a new Search service, available in 25 markets and 10 languages. The new MSN Search
service delivers results of greater relevance, instant answers to specific questions, and a collection of tools
that give Internet users greater control in targeting and refining searches.

• Windows Vista was released to consumers along with a new version of its Office suite, called Microsoft
Office 2007

• In this year Microsoft released windows 7. Beats all previous records of sales.

• For the first time, Apple comes close to Microsoft and becoming the most valuable technology

• Windows 8.1 was released to consumers along with Office 2013.

 Microsoft Windows is a series of graphical
interface operating systems developed,
marketed and sold by Microsoft.
 Microsoft introduced an operating environment named Window
on November 20, 1985 as an add-on to MS-DOS in response to the
growing interest in graphical user interfaces (GUIs).
 Microsoft Windows came to dominate the world's personal
computer market with over 90% market share, overtaking Mac
OS, which had been introduced in 1984.

 Microsoft Office 2013 (formerly Office 15)
is a version of Microsoft Office, a productivity
suite for Microsoft Windows.
 It is the successor of Microsoft Office 2010 and includes extended
file format support, user interface updates and support for touch
among its new features.
 Office 2013 is suitable for IA-32 and x64 systems and requires
Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 or later version of either.
 A version of Office 2013 comes included on Windows RT devices.
 The Xbox is a video game console
manufactured by Microsoft.
It was released on November 15, 2001 in North America, February
22, 2002 in Japan, and March 14, 2002 in Australia and Europe.
 It was Microsoft's first foray into the gaming console market.
The integrated Xbox Live service launched in November 2002
allowed players to play games online with a broadband connection.
Xbox's successor, the Xbox 360, was launched in November 2005.
 Skype is proprietary Voice a over
IP service and software application.
 It developed into a platform with over 600 million users and was
bought by Microsoft in 2011 for $8.5 billion.
 The service allows users to communicate with peers by voice using
a microphone, video by using a webcam, and instant messaging
over the Internet.
 Skype's original proposed name (Sky Peer-to-Peer) reflects this
fact.
Hotmail (officially Microsoft Hotmail,
previously Windows Live Hotmail and MSN
Hotmail) was a free web-based email service operated
by Microsoft as part of Windows Live.
 It was recently replaced by the newer Outlook service by Microsoft.
 Hotmail was one of the first web-based email services, it was
founded by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith and launched in July 1996
as Hotmail.
 It was acquired by Microsoft in 1997 for an estimated $400 million, and
shortly after, it was rebranded as "MSN Hotmail". The current version was
released in 2011.
 Bing (known previously as Live Search,
Windows Live Search, and MSN Search) is a
web search engine (advertised as a "decision engine“)
from Microsoft.
 Bing was unveiled by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on May 28,2009
at the All Things Digital conference in San Diego for release on
June.
 On July 29, 2009, Microsoft and Yahoo! announced a deal in which
Bing would power Yahoo! Search.
 Bing Available in 40 Languages.
 Skydrive (officially Microsoft Skydrive,
previously Windows Live Sky Drive and
Windows Live Folders) is a file hosting service
that allows users to upload and sync files to a cloud storage and then access them
from a Web browser or their local device.
 The service offers 7 GB of free storage for new users. Additional storage is
available for purchase.
 Users who signed up to Sky Drive prior to April 22, 2012 could opt-in for a
limited time offer of 25 GB of free storage upgrade.
 The service is built using HTML5 technologies.
 Internet Explorer (formerly Microsoft Internet
Explorer and Windows Internet Explorer,
commonly abbreviated IE or MSIE) is a series of
graphical web browsers developed by Microsoft and included
as part of the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems, starting in 1995.
 It was first released as part of the add-on package Plus! for
Windows 95 that year.
 Later versions were available as free downloads, or in service
packs, and included in the OEM service releases of Windows 95
and later versions of Windows.
 The latest stable release is IE 10, with a new interface allowing for
use as both a desktop application, and as a Windows 8 application.
