4. Definition of Housekeeping……..
• Housekeeping refers to the management of duties and
chores involved in the running of a household, such as
cleaning, cooking, home maintenance, shopping and bill
pay.
• These tasks may be performed by the household members,
or by other persons hired to perform these tasks.
• The person who is employed to manage a household and
the domestic staff is called housekeeper.

Cleaning Rooms and Public Areas:
Housekeeping department cleans the rooms and toilets and wash basins
in the room. Apart from cleaning the guest rooms, housekeeping department is
also responsible for cleaning floor, terraces, elevators etc.
Bed making:
A guest requires a comfortable bed to take rest, relax and enjoy.
Linen Management:
One of the important jobs of the Housekeeping Department is clothes
and linen management. This involves all functions from purchase of linen to
laundering, storage, supplies and to condemnation of this department.
Laundry Services:
It is the job of the Housekeeping Department to ensure clean and
hygienic washing of all the linen items, and then distributing them to different
areas of the hotel.
7. Key Control:
Key control is one of the major jobs of the housekeeping
department. The room keys have to be handled efficiently and safely before
and after letting the room.
Safety and Security:
The Housekeeping Department is responsible for maintaining a
peaceful atmosphere in the hotel. If the guests and staff always fear for their
safety and the safety of their belongings, the atmosphere will be very tense.
Interior Decoration:
Interior decoration is the art of creating a pleasant atmosphere in the
living room with the addition of a complex of furnishings, art, and crafts,
appropriately combined to achieve a planned result or design. These arts and
crafts have to be well maintained by the housekeeping department.
8. Room Maintenance:
Good housekeeping department is just as responsible for the
hotel's maintenance as an engineering department. In an ideal
environment, the housekeeping staff and managers should act as the eyes
and ears of the engineering department. If damaged or broken items are
not reported, they can't be fixed. Proper maintenance will make the
perception of cleanliness easier to maintain and reduce guest complaints.

Do not focus only one service:
First of all, the housekeeping department as vital in the services
provided to you when you stay in a hotel. This department has many duties
and it does not focus only in one service.
Guest satisfaction:
Housekeeping is an important and integral part of the guest
experience and satisfaction.
Care and comfort:
Achieve the maximum efficiency possible in the care and comfort
of the guests and in providing support services for the smooth running of the
hotel. Every hotel spends a lot of effort in ensuring the quality of beds,
mattresses, channel music, TV, air conditioner if applicable, attached bar
etc.
The guest should feel like he is staying at his home.
11. Deals with many situation:
The housekeeping also deals with many situations that a guess is not
able to see, and that as a department have to take care of such situations.
For example, when a guest has an early or an unexpected departure; this
department has to help the guest to leave; the department´s main goal has
to be to provide an easy time in our guest´ rush; housekeeping can provide
a shuttle to the airport, facilitate the checkout process among others.
Communication between front office and housekeeping
department: it is a key issue. Because room attendant get the
information about the room status to the front desk. Whether the room
is able to sell or not.
Revenue:
In hotels major part of revenue comes from rooms, rooms which is not
sold on any night losses revenue forever and reason for poor occupancy
can be anything like hygiene factor, cleanliness, lack of modernizing
