The document describes the development of a proactive action support system called "Self-reflector" that visualizes quadrant II activities from Stephen Covey's 7 Habits framework. It was created to help university students with career education and proactive action. A preliminary experiment found that the system increased unique users and time logging to some degree. Future work plans to develop a smartphone application and re-examine the system to better support proactive action through estimating activity quality and balance across different life domains.

Notas do Editor
Recently, Career education for university students is one of big issues.
Proactive action is necessary for career building.
However, not a few students are reactive.
So, We have developed proactive action support system called “Self-reflector” that visualizes quadrant II activities in The 7 habits.
The 7 habits is powerful schema for proactive action choice proposed by Stephen Covey.
There are two purposes in the 7 habits, that is, private victory and public victory.
The goal of private victory is independence.
The goal of public victory is interdependence.
I describe about growing process in the 7 habits.
There are 3 stages, that is, dependence, independence, and interdependence.
The 1st stage is dependence.
There are three habits to step up from 1st stage to 2nd stage.
First three habits are about private victory.
The 2nd stage is independence.
There are three habits to step up from 2nd stage to 3rd stage.
3rd stage is interdependence.
This is a growing process from dependence to interdependence across independence.
Final habit empowers to all habits.
We are developing Self-actualization support system called “Mentors”.
In this paper, we focus on self-reflector.
4-quadrant time matrix is import mind in the habit 3.
Any things are divided into 4 quadrant in the combination of urgent and important.
Quadrant II is the proactive action that is not urgent and important. For example, prevention, relationship building, recreation, and new opportunities.
Self-reflector is time management system based on quadrant II.
Self-reflector has 3 features. These features are based on the 7 habits.
User decides leadership roles and activities. This feature is based on habit 1.
User puts quadrant II activities first into calendar.
This feature helps to start action for habit 3.
Then, user can keep updating mission statement.
Self-reflector has visualization tool of quadrant II activities.
This tool visualizes gap between ideal and real.
There three steps. Step 1, user receives notification mail.
Step 2, user clicks the link for timer activation in the mail.
This graph shows time of activities.
Y axis shows time of quadrant II activities in a day.
Step 3, user finished activity, and stop the timer.
This visualization tool measures time between step 2 and step 3.
Red line shows ideal activities. Blue line shows real activities.
User can find the gap.
We had preliminary experiment of visualization tool.
There are 18 examinees.
Only 1 person could use this tool for 3 weeks.
There are two issues about current version of self-reflector.
No 1 is mechanism to support proactive action is required.
No 2 is the quality and balance of the activity are estimated from these 4 viewpoints, physical, spiritual, mental, social.
To solve these issues, we are developing smart phone application.
The 4 fields of activity will be introduced to this system.
This is mock-up screenshot of smart phone application.
User can register and measure their activity by mobile devices.
I will conclude my presentation.
We have developed proactive action support system Self-reflector which visualizes quadrant II activities.
Our future works are development of smart phone application and re-examination of Self-reflector.
This is my value, mission, and strategies.
“Have a calm mind and enjoy life”. It’s my value.
Mission1 is about education to students. Mission2 is about research contribution.
For self-reflection, the 7 habits is useful to realize self-actualization.
The First Three Habits surround moving from dependence to independence (i.e., self-mastery):
The next three habits talk about Interdependence (e.g. working with others):
The final habit is that of continuous improvement in both the personal and interpersonal spheres of influence.
What is be proactice? When there are some stimuli, you can choose the next action.
Choosing is a powerful ability for human to build our life.
Habit 3, that is , put first thing first.
You must put quadrant II activities first in this bucket.
This is a activity that take up long time like as big rocks.
If you put sand first in the bucket, the rock can not put into the bucket any more.
