2. Accomplishments Hamilton is remembered as one of the greatest philosophers of the United States. He laid the foundation for the nation’s economy. He played a crucial role in the formation of the Revenue Marine, today known as the US NAVY. He was an active member of the continental congress for 11 years, and a member of the Philadelphia Constitutional Congress. He was a co-author of the Federalist Papers. He was among the politicians who supported the ratification of the United States Constitution. He was The First Secretary of the Treasury of the United States of America.
3. Background & History When he was young, Alexander was abandoned by his father, James Hamilton. Being without a father, Alexander had to work at the age of 11 . He became a clerk, and from there he eventually became manager. The experiences of work helped shape Hamilton’s views. During the American Revolution, Hamilton was the liaison officer between Washington and the French generals and admirals. Hamilton married Elizabeth, the daughter of General Philip Schuyler, the head of one of New York's most distinguished families. Alexander was New York’s delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1787.
4. Importance Hamilton helped to ratify the US Constitution – helped to establish a strong central government and to weaken the power of the individual states. He and his views helped to create the Federal Bank and laid the groundwork of the nation’s economy. He was one of the establishers of what is now the NAVY.
