The Norwegian flag is influenced by many
cultures. It is said that the three colors were
influenced by the French tricolor flag. These
colors were put into this flag as the white off
centered Scandinavian cross from the Danish
flag and the blue cross is the cross of Sweden.
13. Norway is famous for its mountains and Fjords. Fjords are the deep rivers and valleys that
flow between Norway's many Scandinavian Mountains, it is home to the highest peak of
the Scandinavian Mountains Galdhøpiggen. Norway is one of the most mountainous
countries in Northern Europe. All Norway’s features were formed after the blanket if ice
melted away after the last ice age. Some of the most famous Fjords in Norway include
Baknafjord, Geirangerfjord, Hardangerfjord, Moldefjord, Sognefjord, Trondheimfjord and
Vestfjord. It also has over 150,000 lakes and the largest being Lake Mjosa.

There have been many many
remarkable unique structures made
and constructed in Norway for
multiple purposes such as
protecting the cities from attacks in
World War II, for religion and for
pleasure. Some of the most famous
land marks are:
- Oscarsborg Fortress was
made to protect Oslo in
World war II. This fortress
was somewhat destroyed
and now is still standing
and tourists may see it and
get a tour for free.
- Urnes Stave Church was one of
1300 stave churches that were built
in medieval times and now only 30
remain today. This church in
particular is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site as it has survived
many centuries of weather and has
provided a remarkable feel of
medieval times and culture in
Norway. The church in particular is
marvelling as it was made of wood
- Trollstigen Mountain Road is a
hiking playground
approximately six hours from
the capital Oslo. The scenic
views are a marvel and are a
must see. Along the way you
can do canoeing as well hiking.
This place is a must see and
place you have to visit.
15. Norway experiences many natural disasters such as floods and landslides regularly. Since Norway has experienced
many ice ages it has created many natural problems as the weight of the glaciers was intense so Norway is still
rising from the ocean.
Some of the natural disaster that are known include:
1345 – was when Norway’s oldest known natural disaster occurred where approximately 500 people lost their
lives and the landslide of quick clay destroyed 50 farms.
1789 – was the worst flood that ever occurred in Norway. There was a long period of rain that occurred that
triggered several landslides, caused floods. It claimed around 72 lives and damaged 1500 farms.
1905 Loen, 1934 Tafjord, 1936 Loen – Was when three large rocks fell into lakes and fjords that caused many
tsunamis that killed around 175 people. The rocks hit some villages directly and the village was left deserted.
These were only some of the worst natural disasters that occurred in Norway.

The impact of humans on the environment is a colossal problem in Norway because of air pollution. There
are many industrial companies and factories producing an abundance of greenhouse gasses and thus further
producing Acid Rain which is polluting Norway’s rivers, forests, water ways and it’s beautiful fjords. Humans
are having a grave impact on Norway.

All of these unique festivals are held annually
at different locations throughout Norway.
One very major festival that is celebrated in Norway is the Frozen Waterfall
Festival or sometimes called Ice Music Festival. It is the only ice music festival
in the world. This festival is where there are talented musicians that play
instruments that are made of ice and things that are found at waterfalls. It is
usually celebrated in February. This festival was originated from an incredible
interest in music and interesting sounds by amazing Norwegian and world
famous composers who are determined and have created this famous festival.
