(Teaching Assistant)
(XIV) System Development:
• Collaborative PDF Reader System
Assist students to better understand scientific publications. Students can collaborate with others classmates and
backend algorithms for scientific content understanding.
• MatchMaker Scholar Recommendation System
Recommending high-quality scholar resources, i.e., publications, experts, venues, funding opportunities, via full-text
citation network analysis and text mining techniques.
• ScholarWiki Automated Learning Environments (SWALE)
ScholarWiki, an experimental system developed as a proof of innovative metadata model, was built over the wiki
platform to allow user interaction with the metadata and the editing, deleting, adding metadata. By allowing low-barrier
participation, scholars can participate in the knowledge and metadata editing and enhancing process and benefit
from more accurate and effective information retrieval.
• News ranking system (real-time)
During my work in Yahoo! contextual search team, developed the news ranking system for Yahoo! Search, which
can automatically extract real-time community interest from user-oriented text data and rank the news search results.
• HotCast System
During my work in Yahoo! contextual search team, developed the HotCast System for Yahoo! Search, which can
automatically detect and predict hot terms online by using machine learning and text mining techniques.
• NSDL query visualization system
Proposed the NSDL supported query visualization system for query refinement. The query is visualized by
extracting topics from the retrieved results as well as word, keyword, and collection based visualization for each
candidate topic for query refinement.
• Name Entity Recognition System
Collaborated with UIUC research team under Professor Chengxiang Zhai, on the text based name entity
recognition system (with machine learning) and compared the results with the performance of different nature
language features.

By allowing low-barrier participation, scholars can participate in the knowledge and metadata editing and enhancing process and benefit from more accurate and effective information retrieval.
  • 6. • News ranking system (real-time) During my work in Yahoo! contextual search team, developed the news ranking system for Yahoo! Search, which can automatically extract real-time community interest from user-oriented text data and rank the news search results. • HotCast System During my work in Yahoo! contextual search team, developed the HotCast System for Yahoo! Search, which can automatically detect and predict hot terms online by using machine learning and text mining techniques. • NSDL query visualization system Proposed the NSDL supported query visualization system for query refinement. The query is visualized by extracting topics from the retrieved results as well as word, keyword, and collection based visualization for each candidate topic for query refinement. • Name Entity Recognition System Collaborated with UIUC research team under Professor Chengxiang Zhai, on the text based name entity recognition system (with machine learning) and compared the results with the performance of different nature language features.
