Recognition is one of the most powerful and under utilized management tools. Everyone wants
recognition. Everyone needs it. And recognition increases the likelihood that the action recognized
will be repeated. Keep it simple, remember that adults are just grown up kids.
How about bringing in a bouquet of flowers and presenting it to one of your co-workers.
Tell him or her, “I would like for you to keep this on your desk for the next half hour and
then I would like you to pass it on to someone else and ask them to do the same”. We know
that when efforts to recognize individuals are mixed with a little fun, they tend to take on a life of
their own, creating a more memorable experience. Isn’t that the objective of recognizing someone?
