This document outlines the editing process used for a film titled "This Life Ain't Fair". Key steps taken include:
1) Using a "stunned effect" to blur and flash the titles in and out.
2) Adding brightness, contrast, and color balance effects to adjust for flickering lighting issues in footage.
3) Adding reverb to soundtrack to make dialogue sound like it was recorded inside a room.
4) Speeding up and reversing clips to flashback to events leading up to a dramatic scene.
5) Adding black and white effects to portray a scene looking back in time in an emotional way.
2. After the titles fade out, we have a Cross Dissolve fade transition from
black.
3. For our titles, instead of just having them fade in normally, we
decided to blur in them with a stunned effect e.g. they appear,
then disappear then re-appear quickly as a flash.
4. When we first put all of our footage into Premiere Pro we realised that at points in
the footage the lighting would flicker and go dark then really bright. So we had to
add a Brightness and Contrast effect and Colour Balance it.
5. When we added in a soundtrack, we wanted to make sure it
sounded as if it was playing inside the room to make it more
realistic so we added a ‘Reverb’ effect.
6. Before our main dramatic scene, we decided to use very short clips,
back and fourth between the actors to show the reactions and speed up
the scene before the event took place.
7. Before the actor pulls the trigger and a gunshot is heard, we decided to
reverse the whole scene and speed it up almost like a flashback. The
gunshot is then heard as the screen goes black.
Here we sped up our clips to 1000% and
reversed the speed.
8. For our last scene we decided to add a Black and White effect to our
footage, not only to show that it was going back in time but we wanted
this scene to be feel more emotional; as it was showing the actors past
lives and how far they’ve come.
9. For our running tracking shot footage we slowed the speed down to
50%, again to make it feel more dramatic and to sync it with the mood
of the music.
10. We ended our opening sequence with the titles of the film
‘This Life Ain’t Fair’ fading in just as the soundtrack fades out.
