2. The research I conducted before I started my production helped me further understand my
chosen genre. Researching recent horror films such as the Conjuring and Nightmare on Elm
Street helped me analyse the typical conventions that are in a horror film, these consist of;
1. Gentle diegetic and/or non-diegetic sound to start off with (Equilibrium)
2. During the ‘disruption’ lots of fast paced shots and sound that complements the action on
screen
3. A disturbing shot, often someone killed, dead or hurt
4. More disequilibrium (horror scenes) than equilibrium
5. The editing becomes more apparent, more shots
6. More cuts and more transitions during the disequilibrium scenes.
7. Most often has a vulnerable character and a villain.
8. The soundtrack often changes to create a thrill
After analysing some well-known horror films I was able to use some ideas that they have used
but also go against some of the conventions that are usually seen in a horror film

3. One example of a convention that I used in my trailer is the use of many
different settings and locations throughout it. In most (nearly all) horror
trailers, the audience is shown the main character/s going through different
scenarios and locations, mainly to advertise an exciting storyline that promises
to take the viewer through a roller-coaster of situations. However, where all
the bad things that happen, usually somewhere dark and dangerous such as a
haunted house, a dark forest or a graveyard. For my trailer I focused on the
forest as I wanted to use most

4. I challenged conventions of a typical horror trailer by having a young
vulnerable male as the victim. This is challenging conventions because
stereotypically it is a fragile female who is the victim. I tried to stick with
specific conventions which made horrors films so successful but I made a few
changes so it did not look like any other horror film
