Article 2 making the case for using remote deposit capture[3]
1. Making the Case for Using Remote Deposit Capture
With all the news about hackers stealing bank and
credit card account information, the concept of
depositing a check through remote capture technology
makes some people a bit queasy.
One of the most common questions asked is about the
security issues of someone interrupting the data via a
mobile connection.
Most small business owners that are unfamiliar with
remote capture processes get on board and use it
immediately.
Here are many of the reasons that it benefits small businesses more than any other sector.
Reason #1: Remote Deposit Capture does not involve the transmission of “data”. Data is
the way that computers speak to each other and relay information. There is no actual language
used to transmit the photograph of the check that would threaten a security breach.
Reason #2: Remote Capture is just as trustworthy as online banking. Nearly everyone and
certainly the vast majority of businesses use online banking features already. This is just an
extension of that system.
Reason #3: Remote Capture Deposits are generally available the first business day after
the deposit. If you have an account or your bank releases funds up to $2000 immediately, then
the checks are available on deposit.
Reason #4: You can make a deposit without fighting traffic or weather issues.Regardless of
the weather issues of your region of the nation, you can make deposits without concern for rain,
snow, sleet, hail, forest fires, hurricanes, blizzards or rush hour traffic.
Now, if they would only banks would accept a “cash” deposit using photos!
2. While all this sounds like the ultimate answer to getting to the bank on time, one of the top five
leaders in remote banking software - Wesley Yuhn & ACHDP.com – reminds us that this doesn’t
turn silk into gold or make bad checks good.
All That Said ….
There is only one caveat that should be considered: Just because you can make the deposit faster
does not mean the check is good. Just as you might experience with depositing a hard copy
check, it could be a closed account, have insufficient funds or the funds may be frozen due to
legal grounds.
Several companies produce account verification software that is designed to make sure each
check is good prior to deposit. You can even use it while the customer is right in front of you as
part of the process used to close a sale.
ACHDP LLC – the company where Mr. Yuhn is the CEO – has a software program that is one
step ahead of the majority of other verification programs called Check 21. This particular
software does the remote deposit while taking care of the verification procedure and eliminating
floating check worries.
All in All …
There is not one single instance known where remote deposit capture has been stolen during
transmission of funds. Hackers get into emails and back-loaded coding streams in order to locate
account data.
Photographs contain none of these data streams that can potentially be stolen. If you are not
taking advantage of this new method of mobile electronic banking, you may want to consider it
soon.
