A person forms an impression about another within 10 seconds of meeting. Dr Albert Mehrabian, professor of psychology at the University of California says in his book “silent messages” that words account only for 7% of the first impression, vocal quality accounts for about 38% and 55% of first impression is formed from non-verbal perception such as behavior and appearance.

THE FIRST IMPRESSION
Most persons decide on another by their first impression of the person. The rest of the
time is spent in ratifying that impression.
An impression on another is made for the most part within 10 seconds of meeting. Dr.
Albert Mehrabian, Professor of Psychology at the University of California says in his
book “Silent Messages” that it is by the three Vs – Visual, Vocal and Verbal that
individuals are perceived by others and it is in the following proportions:
Visual how you look 55%
Vocal how you sound 38%
Verbal what you say 7%
Words only account for 7% of an initial impression. Vocal quality accounts for about
38%. 55% of the first impression is based on non-verbal perceptions of behavior and
appearance.
As a business executive; it is imperative that the impression that you create is good.
Your image is the perception others have of you. And you can control your image and the
way you are perceived to be. Looking successful breeds further success.
