5. Introduction
Air pollution occurs when harmful
substances including particulates and
biological molecules are introduced into
Earth's atmosphere. It may cause
diseases, allergies or death in humans; it
may also cause harm to other living
organisms such as animals and food crops,
and may damage the natural or built
environment.
6. Types of Air Pollution
There are two types of air
pollution
• Primary pollutants
• Secondary pollutants
7. .
PRIMARY POLLUTANTS
Pollutants that are
emitted directly from
identifiable sources,
produced by both natural
or human activities.
E.G. Dust, storms,
emission from vehicles.
SECONDARY POLLUTANTS
When certain chemical reaction
take place among primary
pollutants.
E.G.
So3 , o3 , h2o2.
8. SOURCES
FOSSIL FUELS:
Burning of wood, charcoal
and other fossil fuels
causes air pollution by the
release of carbon dioxide,
carbon monoxide, sulpher
dioxide etc.
9. EMISSION FROM AUTOMOBILES
Vehicals are responsible for more
than 80% of total air pollution in
cities. The major pollutants are
release from automobiles include
carbon monoxide, unburnt
hydrocarbons and nitrogen
oxide.
10. Industries
Industries like paper and
pulp factories petroleum
refineries fertilezers plante
etc are the main sources of
air pollution etc.
11. SMOG
Smog envelops the entire
area like thick blanket in
the vicinity of big cities
and industries it is
harmful for animal and
plants.
13. EFFECTS
GLOBAL WARMING:
There is imbalance in the ratio
of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Rise in temperature take place
because there is lot of air pollution
lot of carbon dioxide is being
emitted.
14. ACID RAIN
Acid rain or acid
deposition is a broad term
that includes any form of
precipitation with acidic
components, such as sulfuric
or nitric acid
15. GREEN HOUSE EFFECT
It is caused by carbon dioxide
(CO2)
Carbon dioxide is produced due to
the burning of fossil fuels.
it is caused by automobiles
running on the road.
16. HOLE IN OZONE
Release of CFCs from
heating, aerosol cans,
refrigerator equipment
removes some of the ozone
layer.
This caused the hole in
ozone.
17. EFFECT ON HUMAN
HEALTH
Irritation, headache.
Decrease in vision and cause cardio
vascular disorder.
Reduce oxygen carrying capacity of
blood.
Co and No react with hemoglobin
and reduce O2 carrying capacity of
blood.
Land problem.
