Course Director
Dr John Preedy currently with AZUR Offshore, has
over 40 years experience in research, engineering
production & instruction including 28 years with BP &
offshore oil & gas production.
About the Course
Across the world, oil and gas production faces problems such as fields in ever deeper
water depths, and a variety for field sizes – some very large (more than 1 billion barrels
recoverable) and some very small (less the 25 million barrels recoverable). This range
of cases makes it impossible or uneconomic to exploit by conventional fixed platform
approaches. Field size and location, water depth, weather conditions may all influence
the decision of which type of production hosts is appropriate.
Floating Production, Storage and Offloading host (FPSOs) have been used since the mid-
1970s. These facilities can offer significant advantages over fixed production platforms
particularly in remote deepwater locations or where export pipelines are not feasible.
The Offshore Oil and Gas Industry have emerged from the recent economic downturn
and are increasingly buoyant in all the areas of the world, including South East Asia. Field
Developments deploying FPSOs and other Floating Production Hosts are continuing to
grow in extent, with the last few years seeing a number of “first” for their operation in
new locations.
The aim of the course is to introduce interested parties to the technology of FPSOs and
other Floating Production hosts, and illustrate their use as part of a full Field Development.
The course includes many Field Development examples, including several of the most
recent additions to the worldwide fleet.
A feature of the course is the incorporation and inclusion of a large number of videos
and animations to support the slide presentations. This multimedia mix makes the course
appropriate to professional engineers seeking to extend their knowledge with the latest
information; but also makes it accessible to “non-experts” who are seeking a general
overview of such activities.
“This is a very comprehensive and interesting
Subsea and FPSO Course – I found it
extremely informative”
~ SK Migas
“The speaker provided the latest worldwide
data and simple information overview of
FPSO Technology.”
~ Siemens
“Good overview of the FPSO market and
technicalities ”
~ DBS Bank

  • 2. About the Course Across the world, oil and gas production faces problems such as fields in ever deeper water depths, and a variety for field sizes – some very large (more than 1 billion barrels recoverable) and some very small (less the 25 million barrels recoverable). This range of cases makes it impossible or uneconomic to exploit by conventional fixed platform approaches. Field size and location, water depth, weather conditions may all influence the decision of which type of production hosts is appropriate. Floating Production, Storage and Offloading host (FPSOs) have been used since the mid- 1970s. These facilities can offer significant advantages over fixed production platforms particularly in remote deepwater locations or where export pipelines are not feasible. The Offshore Oil and Gas Industry have emerged from the recent economic downturn and are increasingly buoyant in all the areas of the world, including South East Asia. Field Developments deploying FPSOs and other Floating Production Hosts are continuing to grow in extent, with the last few years seeing a number of “first” for their operation in new locations. The aim of the course is to introduce interested parties to the technology of FPSOs and other Floating Production hosts, and illustrate their use as part of a full Field Development. The course includes many Field Development examples, including several of the most recent additions to the worldwide fleet. A feature of the course is the incorporation and inclusion of a large number of videos and animations to support the slide presentations. This multimedia mix makes the course appropriate to professional engineers seeking to extend their knowledge with the latest information; but also makes it accessible to “non-experts” who are seeking a general overview of such activities. “This is a very comprehensive and interesting Subsea and FPSO Course – I found it extremely informative” ~ SK Migas “The speaker provided the latest worldwide data and simple information overview of FPSO Technology.” ~ Siemens “Good overview of the FPSO market and technicalities ” ~ DBS Bank What our delegates liked about our Energy courses FPSO/Floating Production Technology for Offshore Oil & Gas Production Train the Team! His specific work in the offshore area covered Subsea Robotics/Automation, Seabed Production Concepts, Seabed Excavation Methods, Underwater Repair Techniques, Flexible Riser Studies and Maintenance Cost Reductions. After leaving BP in 1992, he has continued working in the offshore oil industry through Azur Offshore Limited, including activities in the assessment of Emerging and Novel Technologies, Technical and Economic Audits, Deepwater Studies, Production Sharing Agreement Evaluations, Safety and Environmental issues.
