The narrator encounters a venomous tree boa in the jungle that bites them, injecting venom. They collapse to the jungle floor as the venom takes effect, numbness spreading through their body. After waking, they attempt to walk but fall down a hill and hear their body crack. Near water, they stand but feel like they are dying. Falling again, they land hard on rocky ground, their wound burning intensely. Spotting a torch, they try to grab it to tend their wound but instead grab its leg, causing the fire to land on and burn their wound, but realizing it is drawing out and curing the snake venom.
