The seven principles of persuasion by Dr. Robert Cialdini
What makes a webinar great
1. WHAT MAKES A
WEBINAR
GREAT
7 TIPS...
LET'S GO
WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE
CORPORATE AND PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
PRESENTS
THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR CREATING A
HORRIBLE WEBINAR
2. WHO ARE YOU
TALKING TO?
THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR CREATING A HORRIBLE WEBINAR: TIP #1
PUT YOURSELF IN THEIR SHOES FOR A SECOND
CONSIDER YOUR
AUDIENCE
Before you create (and especially if you reuse) a
presentation, stop and think about who will be
attending,* and craft your message for them.
* If you don't know, see next tip!
3. PRE-POLL YOUR GUESTS
THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR CREATING A HORRIBLE WEBINAR: TIP #2
REACHING OUT FIRST HELPS BUILD A RELATIONSHIP
BEFORE THE PRESENTATION BEGINS
GET TO KNOW THEM [BETTER]
Ask a few questions to registrants to see why they're interested
then create your presentation around what you learn.
(this is helpful even if you think you already know your audience)
4. BE CONSIDERATE
THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR CREATING A HORRIBLE WEBINAR: TIP #3
TIME IS VALUABLE AND
YOUR ATTENDEES WILL THANK YOU FOR TAKING THAT INTO CONSIDERATION
CREATE AN AGENDA
POST AN END TIME
STICK TO YOUR TOPIC
5. CHECK YOUR MIC
THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR CREATING A HORRIBLE WEBINAR: TIP #4
AND ALL OTHER TECHNOLOGY
NOTHING IS MORE ANNOYING THAN:
struggling to hear a presenter
waiting while technical difficulties are dealt with
while you're on the line
MAKE SURE ALL YOUR TECHNOLOGY IS WORKING
WELL IN ADVANCE OF GO TIME
6. KEEP THE FLOW GOING
THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR CREATING A HORRIBLE WEBINAR: TIP #5
SPREAD OUT YOUR INFO ON TO MANY SLIDES
WHITE SPACE IS A GOOD THING -
DON'T CLUTTER UP THE SCREEN
Don't be afraid to spread one thought/topic over several
slides this will keep the visual interest going
If you have a lot of info to share, consider supplying PDF
handouts as a resource document
7. SWITCH IT UP
THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR CREATING A HORRIBLE WEBINAR: TIP #6
HAVE MORE THAN ONE PRESENTER SPEAK
PRETEND YOU'RE ON A RADIO SHOW
IT JUST FLOWS BETTER
Ask someone else to welcome the guests and introduce you
(or the main speaker)
Include an expert to present, chimein or answer questions
8. AFTER THE WEBINAR
THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR CREATING A HORRIBLE WEBINAR: TIP #7
DON'T LEAVE YOUR GUESTS HANGING...
LET YOUR AUDIENCE KNOW YOU'RE STILL THERE
EVEN IF THE PRESENTATION IS OVER
Be sure to provide a link to the recording and/or transcripts
Follow up with any unanswered questions be sure to
include the group
9. NOW YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO
