7. MY STORY
In my life I have always been a leader. I
started school at Holy Trinity Lutheran
School at Kumasi. At the lower primary
throughout upper primary to Junior High
school, I was class representative, bell boy,
section leader and compound overseer. I
had the ambition to lead and I was always
picked from the lot. I saw myself to be
naturally ordained to lead by God. I got
admission at the Senior High School at
Sekondi- Takoradi. The name of the school
is St. John’s. In my three years of study at
the campus, I was the dormitory overseer
for two years and at the third year I
automatically became the House Prefect of
8. During my senior high school days, I
told myself that I would not complete
my university education and work for
anyone and that thinking has been
with me till now. Though I went to the
university to practice Nursing but my
motive is to establish my own
Healthcare Center without working for
anyone. Currently, I have been able to
put up my own clothing line and also
deals in the importation of knapsack
sprayers. I am still trusting the process
to reach my target, that is putting up
my own Healthcare.
9. In this course Of study one thing that has resonated for me with my
thinking of being born a leader in class is supervising and delegating.
First and foremost, I have learnt that to be a leader there are three practices
of supervision that must be on your finger tips. They are listening; thus to
have a listening ear for your employees, know their minds and embrace
their ideas sometimes.
Setting goals, that is you should have a target to be reached by your
workers and it should be prioritised . And the last part is cultivating
accountability. That is sewing to it that work is done on time and should be
within the budget estimated for and also at the level of quality needed or
expected.
Secondly, I also learned about the six steps in delegating. As a leader,
before you delegate a work to an employee; you must prepare him.
Employee cannot deliver the quality of work result you require from him if
not taught. As a leader, you should take time and teach him exactly what
you expect from him.
Also, you have to give him an assignment for him to exhibit his skills, ideas
etc on what you have taught him. In giving assignment, you should include
clear information, time to be completed, the amount involved and the
10. After been able to narrate all to you, confirm his
committment by handing over the work to be done to the
employee without interference.
Last and not least, as a leader try to avoid reverse
delegation. That is taking the work back from the
employee due to one reason or another.
Lastly, ensure accountability as a leader. Let the employee
gives an account to the task he performed to know if he
was able to complete it within the stipulated time and
measure his performance.
In conclusion, as the above skills have been obtained
from the course, I am bold and confident that my vision
to establish my own healthcare center will be of success
without limitations should I apply every bit of what I
learnt.
