This document provides instructions for creating origami hummingbirds to display commitments to improving access to water and sanitation for World Water Day. Students will fold origami birds out of paper, write their name, age, country and a commitment they support on each bird. The birds will then be displayed together in the classroom as a "bouquet of hummingbirds" and a photo of the installation can be sent to be featured on the World Water Day website.

- 1. www.worldwaterday.org HELP CREATE A GLOBAL BOUQUET OF HUMMINGBIRDS 1. Go to the World Water Day website and get familiar with the campaign on accelerating change for water and sanitation: www.worldwaterday.org 2. Look at commitments made around the world and make the students choose one, or several, of the 10 commitments: www.unwater.org/bethechange 3. Search online for instructions on how to make an origami bird. There are many tutorials on YouTube or on craft websites. Please choose an age-appropriate level so as not to frustrate your students (or you, as a teacher! Believe us, we have tried ourselves). 4. Cut out squares from paper. These can be 15x15 cm or 20x20 cm. The size doesn’t matter, but the square does. 5. Let the students fold the paper into their own bird. 6. Have each student select their preferred commitment and write it on their bird, together with their first name, age and country. 7. Create your local installation of the birds. Display them in the classroom on desks, hang them in the ceiling, the sky is the limit. 8. Invite parents, other students or community members to visit the installation, and share the story of the hummingbird with them: www.unwater.org/bethechange 9. Send a photo of your local installation to unwater@un.org with the subject ‘A bouquet of hummingbirds for World Water Day’. Remember to add the name and location of your school. 10. With your permission, we can feature your installation and name of class and school on the World Water Day website.
