Major Challenges Definition of creativity in music is unclear to many educators Creativity in music is difficult to identify and evaluate Many music educators are prepared to facilitate student’s musical skills development but not so much in creativity development Values in music performance overweigh music creativity in most communities
Musical Creativity Can be Exercised in: Composing and improvising Singing and performing Reading and notating Listening and analyzing Describing and evaluating Understanding music
Strategies Clarify what creativity means in music Find effective ways to identify and evaluate creativity in music Train teachers to incorporate a wide repertoire of teaching techniques for creativity Educate community members about the importance of creativity and its avenues in the arts
Tools for Action in Teaching Technology Discovery learning Informal learning Collaborative learning Problem-solving Decision-making in context Fun, emotion, & expression Topics for Research Also
