7. Expert Opinion
7.1 AOTMP
The following interview was conducted in May 2014. Visiongain would like to thank Timothy C.
Colwell, Sr. Vice President of Global Business Analytics at AOTMP for participation in this
interview.
7.1.1 AOTMP BYOD Portfolio
Visiongain: Please give us a little background about your company and your BYOD based
offerings.
Timothy Colwell: AOTMP is an information services company. Utilizing the Efficiency First(r)
Framework, we work with enterprises, industry vendors and public sector companies to establish
and maintain high-performance, best-in-class fixed and mobile telecom environments.
7.1.2 Key Trends & Developments in the BYOD Market
Visiongain: What would you say are the key trends and recent developments in the BYOD
ecosystem and why?
Timothy Colwell: Employee demand is the dominant driver in BYOD today. While enterprises
anticipate cost savings as the primary corporate benefit, only one-third of enterprises realize a cost
reduction measured by total cost of ownership.
The most prevalent development in the BYOD ecosystem is the availability of BYOD enablement
technology and solutions available to meet a wide range of requirements. Availability does not
always equate to effectivity, though. BYOD in practice is still maturing and the readiness of any
enterprise to establish BYOD is heavily reliant the definition of business requirements and clear
understanding of dependencies before technology or solutions are implemented. Having the tools
to support BYOD is not enough to garner a successful BYOD program.
7.1.3 Primary Drivers & Restraints of the BYOD Market
Visiongain: What are the possible market drivers and restraints in the BYOD market?
Timothy Colwell: Demand is the biggest market driver. Wireless mobility enablement can no
longer be partitioned into a binary personal versus business usage discussion. Enablement is

8.2 AirWatch (Acquired by VMware)
AirWatch is a leading mobile security and enterprise mobility management provider. More than
12,000 organizations in 150 countries leverage the AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Management
Platform, which includes mobile device, email, application, content, laptop and browser
management solutions.
In Feb. 2014, VMware, Inc., the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, completed
its acquisition of AirWatch. Originally announced on Jan. 22, 2014, VMware acquired AirWatch for
approximately $1.181Bn in cash and approximately $364M of instalment payments and assumed
unvested equity. This acquisition expands VMware’s End-User Computing group; AirWatch’s
offerings will form an expanded portfolio of mobile solutions that are complementary to VMware’s
portfolio.
AirWatch Mobile Security Management ensures enterprise mobility deployment is secure and
corporate information is protected with end-to-end security extending to users, devices,
applications, content, data, email and networks. AirWatch provides real-time device details and
continuous compliance monitoring to ensure your devices and corporate data are secure.
In focusing on an open mobility ecosystem, BlackBerry will allow companies such as AirWatch to
manage devices with the BlackBerry 10 operating system. The integration of the AirWatch
Enterprise Mobility Management Platform with the BlackBerry 10 operating system is not only a
new revenue stream for BlackBerry, but it also allows customers to be able to manage their mobile
devices through one console.
