In this session, I will talk about ISCI’s journey from less
than 5% utilization of VisibleThread (VT) to now using
it regularly for proposals, contracts and task orders,
and in the program management office (PMO).
Additionally, I will discuss how I used VisibleThread to
free up time resulting in room for my personal and
professional growth in just 1 year in a new company.
Ultimately, using VT allowed me to create space to
contribute to growth of the business and clear a path
for my professional growth.

Karnita R. McElveen, Doctoral Candidate, MBA, CF-APMP
I am the Vice President of Operations and the Program Management
Office (PMO) for Information Sciences Consulting, Inc. (ISCI). I am
Transformational leader who forms alliances with individuals and
business leaders via a thought-provoking and creative business process
that supports organizational effectiveness and collaborative team-
building. After serving my country in the military and spending nearly
two decades working in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, I know
what truly drives growth and profitability. I am also a certified proposal
manager who has worked in corporations and with business leaders
around the world to win business based on my passion for business,
and commitment to meeting customer and market demands.
I am a member of Walden University’s Nu Rho Chapter of the
International Business Honor Society, Delta Mu Delta (DMD), and the
National Society of leadership and Success. In addition to my extensive
business experience, I hold a BA in Project Management, a dual MBA in
Operations Management and Human Resource management from
American Intercontinental University and my doctoral studies are
focused on the development of talented, high- potential leaders to help
organizations meet business objectives. I believe that organizational
excellence can be met by setting high expectations while living out the
mission and values.

18. So What?

The use of the tool for strictly proposal purposes saved me days worth time and effort. This freed me up to explore how I could
support other areas of the organization. My application of the Compliance matrix to contract reviews and supporting PM plan
development resulted in my promotion from Director of Proposal Operations to the Director of the PMO.
My use of the doc compare feature helped me form a relationship with the CEO since he saw how quickly I could identify changes
in documents and save the day when we have people not using track changes.
My use of the responsibility matrix to create RACI matrices demonstrated my understanding of the organization and how key
personnel support the organization
My use of the tool across the organization showed my peers my support for their individual departments and helped them save
time by providing them details of the programs and their responsibility using the VT tool

feedback to the executive team and the
business development teams.
24. The Result
• Professional Growth: Saving time with VT gave me the time
and space to grow. After receiving the first promotion within 6
months of the joining the team and demonstrating proficiency
as a director, I was promoted to VP of Operations and the PMP
for AMG, our shared service organization after 1 year in the
organization.
• Business Growth: We won every proposal that I supported in
the first 6 months using the VT. Improved project planning has
increased all programs for all companies
• Operational Growth: As the head of operations for AMG, I set
standards for all companies for which it will support. Currently
building an AMG University wherein I hope to integrate
training with VT.
