Vinod is a New Delhi (India) based management professional. His expertise is strategy,
innovation, project development, marketing, management and CSR. He is the Tokyo-based Asia
Productivity Organisation’s (APO) expert on Green Productivity and Sustainable Development,
and has over thirty years of experience with industry – both in India and abroad.
Industry
Vinod was the Executive Director of M. S. Iyengar & Associates Pvt. Ltd., a thirty-five year old firm of
industrial, business and marketing consultants operating from New Delhi and Boston. He assisted
clients with project identification, feasibility studies, foreign collaborations, project implementation,
marketing strategies, and waste management.
He has advised most state industrial development corporations in India, the U. P. Government and the
Department of Science & Technology. Clients have included 3M, ACC, ITC, Crompton & Greaves,
Johnson & Johnson, Satyam Computer Services, and companies in the Birla, Essel, Goenka, Piramal,
Rajgharia, and Thapar groups. International customers include, among others, Mearl Corp. Inc. (New
York, USA), Seishin Enterprise Company Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) and Veda International Inc. (New Jersey,
USA).
He helped introduce ‘soft-squeeze’ packaging technology in India (the Essel Group’s multi-layered
lamina-tubes project in Maharashtra), as well as alumina fibre based high-temperature insulating
materials in India (the Rajgharia Group’s Orient Cerwool venture).
Vinod has headed Iycon Chemical's electronic and polymer-grade speciality chemicals plant and
has also spearheaded Network Telecommunication Systems’ marketing operations in India.
Green Productivity
Green Productivity is a strategy that combines the application of appropriate productivity and
environmental management tools, techniques, and technologies that reduce the environmental
impact of an organization’s activities, products, and services while enhancing profitability and
competitive advantage.
An innovative aspect of the above is ‘zero-waste production’, which is a unique form of parallel-
processing where the waste generated during one production process is used as the raw material for
a different product. By doing this, productivity and profitability are substantially increased.
Vinod has been associated with several such projects, including the recovery of pigment-grade iron
oxide and titanium dioxide from waste ‘red mud’ (generated by alumina refineries), the extraction of
cenospheres from fly ash (thermal power plant waste) and the production of vehicle-grade bio-CNG
and industrial-grade carbon dioxide from sewage and other bio-wastes.

Sustainable Development
Sustainable development improves the quality of human life while living within the carrying capacity
of the earth’s supporting ecosystems in a manner that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Vinod was involved in the introduction of white light emitting diode (WLED) technology in India. Some
three thousand tribal households in Andhra Pradesh have benefited from the low-cost solar powered
home lighting solution. The project was put into operation by the Government of India’s Ministry of
Tribal Affairs in collaboration with Canada’s Light up the World Foundation, and Hyderabad’s Think
Soft Consultants Pvt. Ltd. and Centre for Environment Concern.
He was also closely associated with CEC and the Government’s Food Security Program in AP’s
Zahirabad District, and helped plan and implement solutions for marginal farmers and women’s self-
help groups.
Vinod has designed livelihood projects for the 2004 tsunami survivors in Tamil Nadu, and also for the
2005 earthquake survivors in Jammu and Kashmir. These were deployed through self-help groups in
alliance with HelpAge India, local NGOs and the relevant State Governments.

service. He was also involved in the incubation of India’s first comprehensive emergency response
solution, i.e., EMRI (Emergency Management & Research Institute), which is currently operational in
sixteen States. Other projects involved several environment initiatives and livelihood generating
schemes.
As Vice President, Piramal Swasthya (formerly, Health Management & Research Institute), Vinod
helped implement large public healthcare projects that leverage information and communication
technologies that are coupled with modern management practices. Piramal Swasthya is operating in
Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Assam, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Orissa and Rajasthan. The
projects directly benefit over a hundred million people– mostly in rural India.
