EDUCATION:
I received a Master of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois in Champaign-
Urbana, Illinois.
I received a Master of Arts degree in Education from Saint Martin's College in Lacey,
Washington.
I graduated with honors and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from the
University of Illinois, earning recognition as an Edmund J. James Scholar.
I graduated from Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School in Bradley, Illinois. I was a member
of the National Honor Society, a college scholarship recipient, the “most valuable” member of the
Student Council, and the Senior Class President.
PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATIONS AND TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
January of 2005 to the present – I am currently the Senior Editor of three technology print
magazines and two online newsletters at Penton Media in Loveland, Colorado. My duties include
editing articles and writing my own articles about industry issues and IT leaders.
July of 2002 to January of 2005 – I served as the Senior Editor for the University of Wyoming,
writing articles for state and regional publications. In addition, I also wrote daily news releases and
edited the writing of faculty members and deans.
2. My prior journalism experience includes working as a feature editor and reporter for The Daily
World newspaper in Aberdeen, Washington, and writing news for KHQ Television and Radio
Studios in Spokane, Washington, The Des Plaines Herald in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, and
The Kankakee Daily Journal in Kankakee, Illinois.
I also taught English and writing in Washington at Capital High School in Olympia, Aberdeen High
School in Aberdeen, Miller Junior High School in Aberdeen, and the Elma School District in Elma. I
specialized in teaching Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate writing to college-
bound seniors. I edited literary magazines and oversaw yearbooks and newspapers.
PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATIONS HONORS:
• I won a first place editing award from Penton Media for a new digital magazine that I
developed. I also received an Outstanding Achievement Award from Penton for the articles
I write for our print and online publications. In addition, I received a “best employee” award.
• At the University of Wyoming I won a first place national/international award for editing
Reflections magazine and for writing articles for the publication. The university nominated
me for outstanding professional staff member of the year and outstanding employee of the
year.
• During my newspaper career, I received 12 statewide honors (including five first-place
finishes) for my writing.
• I received a Journalism Educator of the Year award.
