HOW TO CREATE A GOOGLE+
PROFILE
What is Google+!
!
Google+ (pronounced as Google Plus) is a social networking service that is owned and
operated by Google Inc. Google+ allows for discovering and sharing digital content with
friends, family and co-workers. Often times it it compared to Facebook but it’s important
to note that Google+ functions differently as it serves a different purpose. Google+
allows for more control in privacy settings as well as more amplification of posts (post to
a Circle and have the option of people in the Circle receiving an email of your post!).
Google+ is the second largest social media platform after Facebook and is commonly
used in professional settings. Google+ is also integrated with other Google applications
such as Gmail, Google Maps, Google Calendar, Google Drive and YouTube.

VOCABULARY: GOOGLE+ !
!
+1: Like something? +1 it!
!Circle: Circles are clusters of a user's friends on Google+, meaning you can group certain people you
choose to connect with on your Google+ into a certain Circle--such as colleagues, college connections,
family, etc. When you want to share content with only these individuals, you include that specific Circle in
your post's sharing options.
!Communities: A group of people with common interests. Google+ communities can be public or private
and allow for rich conversations. Posts made in Communities are automatically emailed to each member
within the community.
!Hangouts: A Hangout is an instant message (chat) and video service on Google+ that allows you to
video chat with other Google+ users. Video Hangouts allow for up to 10 Google+ users at a time. You
can name these chats, watch YouTube videos during them, open a Google Doc with colleagues, and
much more.
!Hashtag: A word or string of characters that starts with a number sign (#). Identical hashtags are grouped
together in a search thread.
!Pages: Pages are created and managed by businesses. Follow business pages to see their posts on
your home wall.
!Post: Anything answering the question "What's on your mind?”
!+Reply: The +reply (or @reply) means a Google+ tag that is directed to another user in a post or reply.
!Stream: Similar to Facebook news updates but you can see updates for particular circles rather than
updates for everyone at once.
