UNDERSTANDING THE NEED, BASIC
GUIDELINE,CONTENT, PROCESS FOR
VALUE EDUCATION

1. INTRODUCTION
• The subject which enable us to understand ‘What is Valuable` for
human happiness is called VALUE EDUCATION.
• Value education enables us to understand our needs and visualize our
goals correctly and also indicate the direction of their fulfilment.
• All the human being continuously aspire for a happy life, a fulfilling and
successful life ,and the purpose of education is to provide adequate
competence to actualize this aspiration.
Values are principles and priorities which helps us make decision on
daily basis
• Core of personality.
• Strong force affecting behaviour.
• Judgmental in nature.
• Content and Intensity Attributes.
• Dynamic, not static.
• Relatively Stable and Enduring.
• Separate Hierarchy of values forming various value systems.
• A value is defined as a principle that promotes well-being or
prevents harm.”
• Another definition is: Values are our guidelines for our success—our
paradigm about what is acceptable.”
• Personal values are defined as: “Emotional beliefs in principles
regarded as particularly favourable or important for the individual.”
• Correct identification of our aspiration.
• Understanding universal human values to fulfil our aspiration in
continuity.
• Complimentary of values and skills.
• Evaluating our belief.
• Technology and human value.
Basic guideline and content OF Value
Education
In order to qualify for any course on value education, the following guidelines for
the content of the course are important:
1. Universal:
It needs to be applicable to all the human beings irrespective of cast, nationalities,
religion, etc., for all times and regions.
2. Rational:
It has to appeal to human reasoning. It has to be amenable to reasoning and not
based on blind beliefs.
3. Natural and verifiable:
It has to be naturally acceptable to the human being who goes through the course
and when we live on the basis of such values it leads to our happiness. It needs to
be experientially verifiable, and not based on beliefs or assumptions
 4. All encompassing:
 Value education is aimed at transforming our consciousness
and living. Hence, it needs to cover all the dimensions (thought,
behaviour, work and realization) and levels (individual, family,
society, nature and existence) of human life and profession.
 5.Leading to harmony:
 The value education ultimately is targeted to promote harmony
within the individual, among human beings and with nature.

• Value of any unit in this existence is its participation in the
larger order of which it is a part.
• E.g: Value of a pen is that it can write. Here writing is the
participation of the pen in the bigger order in which pen, paper,
human being, all are present.
• Value of an eye is that it can be used for seeing.
• Value of a spinach plant is that it gives nutrition to animals and
humans.
• What is the Value of a Human Being? In order to understand
Human Values, we need to study human beings along with all
that is there in the existence (human beings, plants, air, water,
soil, animals, birds etc.) and the role of Human being in the
relationship with each unit in the existence.
• Human values are the virtues that guide us
• They are the feelings of human essence of others
• Values guides the selection or evaluate policies, people and events
• Love : Unconditional and unselfish care.
• Peace : Control the mind.
• Truth: Indispensable ethical discipline.
• Non -violence: means respect for life and recognition of rights of others.
• Right conduct : Truth in action is right conduct.
• “Thinking with love is truth, feeling with love is peace, action with truth is
right conduct, understanding with love is non -violence”

• Wisdom refers to the slow accumulation of personal values that work well for people
living in different kinds of ways.
• Wisdom is a understanding of our existence, the human situation, our possibilities, and
especially our limitations.
• Values are at the core of wisdom, some say that human values will determine the future
• Wisdom is a virtue . The deliberation, decision, and action of wisdom guide the other
virtues toward the good
• Prudence - knowing what to do
• Wisdom is the good judgment to consider how today’s choices may determine how we
confront the future.
• It is the good sense to go to the dentist today, enduring the brief inconvenience and
pain, to avoid more trouble later.
• Freedom can be defined as the human value, or situation, to act according to ones
will without being held up by the power of others
• True freedom is exercised and experienced when parameters are defined and
understood,
• Parameters are determined by the principle that everyone has equally the same
rights.
• For example, the right to peace, happiness, and justice, regardless of religion,
culture or gender are innate.
• Full freedom functions only when rights are balanced with responsibilities and
choice is balanced with conscience.
• Inner freedom is to be free from confusion and complications within the mind,
intellect and heart that arise from negativity.
• Inner freedom is experienced when I have positive thoughts for all others and for
myself.
• Freedom is an ongoing process.
• Creativity gives value to humans.
• A creative person creates new possibilities, is flexible and lively.
• “Creativity can be learned as learning to read.”
• Creativity is a practical process
• It is a process of having original idea that add value
• Creativity works when there is curiosity, passion, knowledge , Dedication
• You can exercise creativity in school, in business, in everyday life
• Being creative helps to solve problem, generate more idea and concept
• Creativity is everywhere

• Creativity is a ability of brains
• For Creation of new idea ,concepts conclusion
• Willing to invent something
• Troubleshooting in an original way
• New association between existing ideas and concepts
• Creativity creates jobs, drives economic growth and provides answers to
societal needs.
• it also maximizes human potential.
• Research quoted in Newsweek says that children with high “creative self-
efficacy” are better able to handle stress and are more “confident about
their futures
• it is pure, unselfish giving that is unconditional
• God is Love, live in Love' Sathya Sai Baba
• he human value of love can best be expressed as the all-pervading life energy.
• this value has nothing to do with emotion, passionate feeling, desire or
attachment.
• The greatest gift parents can give to their children is love and it is the most
potent single force in their early development.
• Loving relationships in a family create an atmosphere in which children feel
cared for, secure and valued.
• It can be expressed as kindness, friendship, understanding, acceptance and
sincerity.
• It urges us to embrace all those around us with compassion.
• In the spirit of love, we do not look to undermine, belittle and exclude
others.
• It is being selfless and detached from mutual expectations.

the human nature.

  • 1. UNDERSTANDING THE NEED, BASIC GUIDELINE,CONTENT, PROCESS FOR VALUE EDUCATION Harshit Garg

INTRODUCTION • The subject which enable us to understand ‘What is Valuable` for human happiness is called VALUE EDUCATION. • Value education enables us to understand our needs and visualize our goals correctly and also indicate the direction of their fulfilment. • All the human being continuously aspire for a happy life, a fulfilling and successful life ,and the purpose of education is to provide adequate competence to actualize this aspiration.

Values are principles and priorities which helps us make decision on daily basis • Core of personality. • Strong force affecting behaviour. • Judgmental in nature. • Content and Intensity Attributes. • Dynamic, not static. • Relatively Stable and Enduring. • Separate Hierarchy of values forming various value systems.
  • 4. • A value is defined as a principle that promotes well-being or prevents harm.” • Another definition is: Values are our guidelines for our success—our paradigm about what is acceptable.” • Personal values are defined as: “Emotional beliefs in principles regarded as particularly favourable or important for the individual.”

  • 9. Basic guideline and content OF Value Education In order to qualify for any course on value education, the following guidelines for the content of the course are important: 1. Universal: It needs to be applicable to all the human beings irrespective of cast, nationalities, religion, etc., for all times and regions. 2. Rational: It has to appeal to human reasoning. It has to be amenable to reasoning and not based on blind beliefs. 3. Natural and verifiable: It has to be naturally acceptable to the human being who goes through the course and when we live on the basis of such values it leads to our happiness. It needs to be experientially verifiable, and not based on beliefs or assumptions
  • 10.  4. All encompassing:  Value education is aimed at transforming our consciousness and living. Hence, it needs to cover all the dimensions (thought, behaviour, work and realization) and levels (individual, family, society, nature and existence) of human life and profession.  5.Leading to harmony:  The value education ultimately is targeted to promote harmony within the individual, among human beings and with nature. 

  • 13. • Value of any unit in this existence is its participation in the larger order of which it is a part. • E.g: Value of a pen is that it can write. Here writing is the participation of the pen in the bigger order in which pen, paper, human being, all are present. • Value of an eye is that it can be used for seeing. • Value of a spinach plant is that it gives nutrition to animals and humans. • What is the Value of a Human Being? In order to understand Human Values, we need to study human beings along with all that is there in the existence (human beings, plants, air, water, soil, animals, birds etc.) and the role of Human being in the relationship with each unit in the existence.

The deliberation, decision, and action of wisdom guide the other virtues toward the good • Prudence - knowing what to do • Wisdom is the good judgment to consider how today’s choices may determine how we confront the future. • It is the good sense to go to the dentist today, enduring the brief inconvenience and pain, to avoid more trouble later.
  • 23. • Freedom can be defined as the human value, or situation, to act according to ones will without being held up by the power of others • True freedom is exercised and experienced when parameters are defined and understood, • Parameters are determined by the principle that everyone has equally the same rights. • For example, the right to peace, happiness, and justice, regardless of religion, culture or gender are innate. • Full freedom functions only when rights are balanced with responsibilities and choice is balanced with conscience. • Inner freedom is to be free from confusion and complications within the mind, intellect and heart that arise from negativity. • Inner freedom is experienced when I have positive thoughts for all others and for myself. • Freedom is an ongoing process.
