2. At its Alabama Lifestyle Center and online, Uchee
Pines Institute hosts training programs and
seminars to help people live healthier lives.
Uchee Pines Institute also publishes a wide
variety of counseling sheets on such health
topics as preventing and treating colds.
The common cold does not respond to
antibiotics and has no known cure, save for the
body’s natural defenses. Many experts have
suggested that a person can stimulate those
natural defenses in a number of ways, one of the
most effective of which is deep breathing.
3. A deep inhale and exhale of 10 to 20 seconds,
repeated over 40 to 50 full breaths, can speed
new oxygen-rich blood to the infection and
refresh the tissues.
Hot showers allow the patient to breathe in
steam, which moisturizes the respiratory
passages and relaxes the body. When alternated
with cold, this process may also stimulate the
release of white blood cells to the body. With
plenty of water and regular meals as well, the
body can most efficiently fight the virus.
