Dear Colleague:
n behalf of the Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia, we would like to

O invite you to attend the 36th annual Recent Advances in Clinical Medicine Conference.
The Planning Committee has assembled a group of excellent lecturers who will address
current issues in allergy and immunology, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general
medicine, geriatrics, hematology-oncology, infectious diseases, nephrology, psychiatry, pulmonary
medicine and rheumatology. In addition, there will be interdisciplinary sessions featuring clinical
toxicology, gender-specific health topics, and weight loss counseling. Each lecture will have direct
applicability to practice now and in the immediate future.

We have continued our popular “Meet the Professor” sessions over breakfast and lunch to provide you
with opportunities to broaden your medical knowledge and skills through case discussions, workshops,
and interactive presentations. And we are again offering a dinner symposium in the University of
Virginia’s historic Rotunda, designed by Thomas Jefferson, where you can hear leading experts provide
updates on the status of health care reform and its implications for practicing clinicians

The course will be particularly useful to generalists practicing in a variety of settings and should also
be useful to nurse practitioners and physician assistants. We will provide a comprehensive course
syllabus that will serve as a useful reference.

Charlottesville is delightful in the fall. The foliage in the Blue Ridge Mountains will be at its peak,
Thomas Jefferson’s University of Virginia and Monticello are within minutes of the conference hotel
and there are many activities available for families. The meeting takes place on the historic Downtown
Mall, which boasts charming shops, numerous restaurants, art galleries, two movie theatres, and an
indoor ice skating rink.

We look forward to seeing you in October!

  • 1. The University of Virginia Department of Medicine presents The 36th Annual EDWARD W. HOOK, JR., M.D. Recent Advances in Clinical Medicine October 28 - 30, 2009 Omni Charlottesville Hotel Charlottesville, Virginia Sponsored by the Office of Continuing Medical Education • University of Virginia School of Medicine
  • 2. Dear Colleague: n behalf of the Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia, we would like to O invite you to attend the 36th annual Recent Advances in Clinical Medicine Conference. The Planning Committee has assembled a group of excellent lecturers who will address current issues in allergy and immunology, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general medicine, geriatrics, hematology-oncology, infectious diseases, nephrology, psychiatry, pulmonary medicine and rheumatology. In addition, there will be interdisciplinary sessions featuring clinical toxicology, gender-specific health topics, and weight loss counseling. Each lecture will have direct applicability to practice now and in the immediate future. We have continued our popular “Meet the Professor” sessions over breakfast and lunch to provide you with opportunities to broaden your medical knowledge and skills through case discussions, workshops, and interactive presentations. And we are again offering a dinner symposium in the University of Virginia’s historic Rotunda, designed by Thomas Jefferson, where you can hear leading experts provide updates on the status of health care reform and its implications for practicing clinicians The course will be particularly useful to generalists practicing in a variety of settings and should also be useful to nurse practitioners and physician assistants. We will provide a comprehensive course syllabus that will serve as a useful reference. Charlottesville is delightful in the fall. The foliage in the Blue Ridge Mountains will be at its peak, Thomas Jefferson’s University of Virginia and Monticello are within minutes of the conference hotel and there are many activities available for families. The meeting takes place on the historic Downtown Mall, which boasts charming shops, numerous restaurants, art galleries, two movie theatres, and an indoor ice skating rink. We look forward to seeing you in October! Andrew M.D. Wolf, M.D. Robert M. Strieter, M.D. Associate Professor of Medicine Professor of Medicine Course Director Chair, Department of Medicine
