• Ensure that women‘s health and wellbeing are given
equal consideration to that of children – careful not
to take an instrumentalist approach
• Avoid terminologies, such as “unborn child“ &
“violence against mothers“ – could be detrimental to
SRHR efforts
• Measure sexual violence within context of women’s
exposure to violence in childhood
• Assess laws related to VAW, as well as VAC
Look for opportunities to increase coordination across
VAW/VAC:
• Ensure that efforts to change acceptability of
corporal punishment, also challenge acceptability of
wife abuse
• Promote the integration of material on gender
socialization within parenting programs
• Increase coordination between services for survivors
of VAC and VAW
