4. CAMEROON’S MINING INDUSTRY OVERVIEW
II- Current major mining and research
projects
 Cameroon’s geology is mainly consists of
metamorphic rocks, sedimentary and Igneous origin.
 Favourable geological and environmental
conditions for mineralization, Cameroon is
becoming a new mining destination in Africa.
 More than 100 research permits and 5 mining
permits have been granted, covering only 40 %
of the national territory. At this moment, some
of the major projects are :
 Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese in Lomié : mining
permit (Geocam/Geovic (US)) ;
 Diamond in Yokadouma: mining permit
(C&K Mining (South Korea)) ;
 Bauxite in Ngaoundal, (Cameroon Alumina
(US and India): 750 Mt @ 65 % ;
 Uranium in Kitongo, Lolodorf and Teubang
(Mega Uranium).

5. APPLICATION OF UNFC/ LESSONS LEARNED: URANIUM
RESOURCES CLASSIFICATION
WHAT IS UNFC
• The UNFC is a universally acceptable and internationally
applicable scheme for the classification and reporting of
fossil energy and mineral reserves and resources and is
currently the only classification in the world to do so.
• This Classification is designed to allow the incorporation
of currently existing terms and definitions into this
framework and thus to make them comparable and
compatible.
• This approach has been simplified through the use of a
three-digit code clearly indicating the essential
characteristics of extractable energy and mineral
commodities in market economies, notably (i) degree of
economic/commercial viability (E); (ii) field project status
and feasibility (F); and (iii) level of geological knowledge
(G).

8. APPLICATION OF UNFC TO URANIUM
RESOURCES IN CAMEROON (LESSONS
LEARNED)
• Uranium is recorded in many parts of the
country sometimes as occurrences and at other
times as ‘’deposits’’.
• The three main uranium ‘’deposits’’ discovered
in Cameroon are in Kitongo (Poli, Salaki, Voko
and Gouna) located in the North, Lolodorf in
the South and Teubang in the Nord-East of
Cameroon. The main potential uranium reserve
in Kitongo (Poli) is estimated to be 11 130 t U,
and in Lolodorf, 1 025 t U. Based on UDEPO, 2015.

A total of 2000 m was planned on 12
holes, but after three holes (total 498.3m)
intersected nothing of economic
significance over a 300m length of the
projected mineralized trend to the NE, the
decision was taken to terminate the
program in order to reassess the merits of
the 2010 targets and revise the 2011
drilling program accordingly. Due to
budgetary constraints the proposed 2011
drilling program has been deferred.
F axis: (F2.2) Feasibilty of extraction
is subject to further evaluation.

Limited shallow drilling was

have been done after 2010.]

16. APPLICATION ADVANTAGES
UNFC:
• Facilitates a preliminary economic evaluation
of our uranium indices.
• Permit government to have a preliminary idea
of the economic value and potential social
impact of the uranium resources in Cameroon.

17. HARMONIZATION AND
DEVELOPMENT OF AN AMREC
• Capacity buiding
• Accreditation of Competent Persons
• Including the classification system in mining
policy and Regulatory framework.

18. CONCLUSION
• The process of implementation of UNFC in
Cameroon is at an infant stage nevertheless,
awareness (Sensitization) is being created through
meetings and one on one discussions with
Stakeholders.
• During the up coming CIMEC 2017 (26-28
October), a presentation on UNFC is previewed.
• The harmonization, adaptation, implementation
and development of the UNFC in line with the
African Mining Vision (AMV), will enable
Cameroon to have a faster growth to an adult
stage in UNFC implementation.
